JustGav
This is mainly for the IT bods here... [RANT] Do you find that once your family / extended family / friends find out you know what you are doing with PC's that you constantly get phone calls?? I can't recall when the last time was that I actually did PC support, but since I work as a Data Centre Designer, they assume that I fix PC's all day, so I'd love to help them fix their PCs at night.. Just had the father in law phone me while I was in the bath to ask me a 'quick' question... So quick it turns out... I'm having to go down to his place on before I head out to fix his bloody wireless network and PC..... Hell, I was at a BBQ the other weekend, and I had some bloke asking me how to get into PC support, telling me how he built his own PC and all that sort of thing.. I was desperate to say... 'I don't give a toss, I happen to leave that to other people, and I build million pound systems'... but the good heartedness in me ends up humouring them for hours, so I end up smiling nicely and saying things like 'Oh really, didn't know you could do that with a pc'.... Two days later cousin turns up at my house spends the day doing the gardening / painting fences etc etc think he's trying to buy my silence lol

hiten55
you must be desperate, telling them to go there!!! oi watch it - i started my pc career there - best thing - ever - taught me what NOT to do in all fairness you cant blame the staff, they get no support or training on anything apart from how to sell. dunno how i blagged my way through 4 years of it i do get a lot of calls, or i did, untill i got some of my cousins into IT, now they get them all the most annoying ones are from end users at work though
edd_t
oi watch it - i started my pc career there - best thing - ever - taught me what NOT to do after 3 years of doing an IT course. getting an Advanced GNVQ in IT, and getting a City & Guilds in Microprocessing. They said I wasnt qualified for more than a job on the tills, so I told um to shove it. But then McDonalds wouldnt employee me either, but I put that one down to being to experienced! Pixelfill
Yeah my parents are hopeless. I have however just managed to persuade the Girlfriend's dad to buy a new PC so I no longer have to support his Windows 98 PC from 1996 The worst "support call" I had was going on holiday to my parents in Spain and getting roped into sorting 2 of their neighbours' PCs - Thanks Mum Mike
