TLicense
All, a couple of weeks ago I had a squeaky clutch pedal, that was severely doing my head in. I decided to strip it down and give it a clean and lube it up with some moly grease where necessary. I got as far as removing the big spring that unsurprisingly sprang around under the dash like a barsteward almost taking my head off. I decided then that maybe I should just put the thing back together and hope that a liberal greasing would do the trick. Unsurprisingly the big spring was proving to be a right git to put back into place as I could only get enough tension as my wee little hands could push onto it. After about a half hour of profusely swearing and sweating I came up with the idea of throwing the thing in the vice, nipping it up and bunging some tie wraps around it to stop it opening up again, snicking it back into place and then cut the tie wraps to let it go back under tension. As I nipped it up in the vice it just fired across the garage so I thought bugger it, I'll just try and use my bare hands. After about another half hour I managed to push it on, and it seemed to be working absolutely fine. Cool I thought. About two weeks later... When I let up on the pedal, it seems to stop being sprung back up about an inch from the end of travel. Sometimes it pops back and with a bit of a thud sometimes it doesn't. It's REALLY doing my head in. Could somebody go and take a couple of pictures of the clutch pedal assembly on their car so I can make sure I've got the damned thing back together correctly (I'm pretty sure I have but would like to be proven wrong) If all is as it should be I can only guess I've plastically deformed the spring with the vice incident, and will need to buy a new one. If anyone has got any other ideas they'll be very gratefully received. Thanks in advance Tony

TLicense
Cheers guys that would be excellent. To be honest Chris if your flying through Witney either tonight or sunday, if I could pop my head down there that would be great. It would only take me a couple of seconds I'm sure, and if Al really wants to have a play with his new camera he could even come along and take a few pics. Or perhaps I'm wandering WAAAYYY off topic here Seriously though. I don't mind coming to you if you're not heading Witney-wards. Give me a shout. Well, funny you mention that and being that it's Friday. I spent 30minutes watching the Bourne Supremacy, then answered a few work related emails. Ponced & fannied around in the lab. Then went to lunch. Came back watched abit more of the Bourne Supremacy (good film so far, btw) - more work emails & documents & web-surfing. Then came home - that was the highlight of my day! [/Quote] No problem Tony. As it so happens, I'm headed there tonight anyway as gotta take some DVDs back & pay by dues to my grandparents. I'll be in around in Witney between 7.30 - 9pm. Otherwise, sure can sort something out for ya!

TLicense
Cheers Si that's great. I remembered that I also tightened one of the bolts that hold the bracket onto the bulkhead. I think there should be a spacer behind it which I'm guessing I don't have and when I tightened it down I think I must have bent the bracket down. I'm trying to download the epc at the moment to find out if there are any spacers between the bracket and the bulkhead. Another thing that leads me to this is because my clutch pedal isn't level with the brake or accelerator pedal. I'll let you know how I get on. TLicense
Hmmm, Just loosened the bolt I had tightened down and pulled it foward. None of the the rest of the assembly moved. So it's not that. It really does seem that I'm not getting enough travel upwards. I don't have the bolt that holds the pedal down and adjusts the point it stop, so in thory the pedal should be too high, not too low. I'm going to take the car into mr T on tues, get him to diagnose it and then take it somewhere reputable to put it right. If anyone has any other thoughts please let me know. TLicense
OK guys, this tuned out to be an easy thing. Basically there's a nut on the rod for the master cylinder. For some reason this had been wound all the way down. As I started winding this nut the back it moved the pedal back up. Sorted. Thanks for all your help guys.
