edd_t
A few weeks back I needed to get a starter motor for my dads MGRV8. We found an online place that seemed pretty good. Did a search on their website, found the motor we needed from their list. And orderd it. It cost £212 with £60 cash back on return of dead starter motor. So it arrived, dad took a bit of time to take it to the garage. When the garage went to fit it, it didnt fit. The capacitor (what ever that bit is) is in completly the wrong place. So we call up the company, check the model numbers etc, and basicly they say its the correct motor, but we know, because we have old and new sitting next to each other, that its the wrong one. So we send the motor back to them. But, they are saying that because we took more than 7 days, we cant have our money back, and can only have a credit note. Ok so I admit we did take about 2 weeks to check the motor out, but, its the wrong motor, its their system thats in the wrong because it has the wrong part numbers, and now they can't even supply us with the correct motor!!! Are we entitled to our money back? Or do we have to take the credit note?
hiten55
iirc legally you have a reasonable amount of time to accept the goods. most companys say 7 days is reasonable but theres no fixed term if that makes sense. so really its down to them. now if the parts wrong, and its their fault, then you should be able to convince them. Cant they just swap it for the right part though?
edd_t
Cant they just swap it for the right part though? even though we gave them the manufacturer (SP) part number they cant find it anywhere. the part is made by Bosche. I know the car is rare (only around 2000 of um) but I would have thought the part would be pretty standard.
hiten55
sounds like you need to try and appeal to their good nature, either that or sell it?

Pot
Was this company in the UK? Or abroad? As I'm sure that's a big factor in your right to claim it back?...
RobSheffield
What company was it? My uncle has an RV8 and my dad has a late 60s B V8 both had new starters on them, no problems each time PM if you like

Gamer
Assuming you paid with a credit card. Then don't even waste your time with the retailer if they are not going to play ball. Just make a claim via your CC for a chargeback. Job done.

edd_t
I called them today, as no money has been returned to my bank account, and I've had no letter to say I have a credit note. They say they never recieved the part back!!! Luckly when I sent it back, I paid good old Royal Mail £19 for recorded delivery and £200 insurance. Just gotta go to my local postie tommorow to chase it up and see if anyone signed at the other end! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....
