gavin.starr
ive just reacently bought a mkiv supra twin turbo import. when i reverse around or drive out of sharp corners the car feels as though the rear wheels are jumping. difficult to explain. its as though ther rear axle is solid therefore sharp tight slow corners eg pulling out at a junction the rear end skipps and jumps. is this to do with the differential not working correctly because the wheel on the outside of the bend has to move round further than the inside wheel etc. very hard to explain is this normal or do i need to get it looked at. cheers in advance gav
edge
I can hear mine skip when doing tight slow turns and does it in others ive been in. Not to sure if it would do it if you was going round a roundabout for example

Digsy
Do you know if you have a limited slip diff (LSD)? A search on here will tell you how to read your VIN plate to tell whether you have or not.

Animal
If you're getting a big jolt under slow tight turns and a feeling like the rear wheel has run over a housebrick, then your diff could be about to let go. This happened to me last year. One of the planetary gears had stripped a tooth and after a few days it went bang and fragged the whole diff. Check out my garage for a pic. Possibly not the best news you were wanting, but it's best to know. Hopefully it's summat of nowt. Welcome, BTW.
Chris Wilson
It's almost certainly (99% certainly) got a tightly set plate type LSD in it, a none standard, aftermarket fitment. There are various set ups available, you would need to remove it to see if it's at all suitable for street driving, if it's what the Japs call a "2 way" type it will make the handling very iffy. If it's a 1 or 1.5 way, it will be fine *IF* you can live with the harshness and noise, and some extra rear tyre wear. There are oil additives available (from me, for example) that *MAY* quieten it somewhat. It will never be as civilised as an open diff, or the Toyota gear type LSD diff. If you had to buy one it would be pretty costly, so it's desirable if you actually want one
gavin.starr
if theres nothing wrong with it i think ill leave it the noise and the harshness cand be delt with im not too fussed about that. cheers for ure help gav
