michael
The BBC take on it: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/leicestershire/6767623.stm The big red R means they have just rejected it, no scope for cuts to be made to get an 18 cert, the theme of the game is being rejected, not just the content. michael
didnt realise Carmageddon was banned all them years ago. i used to love that! wish i still had my copy. No I was shocked by that, I bought a copy so I presume it was released later on - perhaps that's why the "blood" was green (without the patch to make it red) - it's OK to mow down zombies. Yeah they changed the blood to green and there was a different opening cut scene on the officially release one here. Played sooo many hours of that game multiplayer it wasn't healthy Shame it's banned, will still be able to buy it online I should imagine. Jack Thompson will be happy. michael
LOL it sounds awesome! One feature: The ability to decapitate enemies and wear their severed heads on your belt, which can be used as either a weapon or a distraction While most moves on PS2 will simply involve pressing a button, the Wii version will instead need the player to hold the Wii Remote at the screen very still; if the player shakes, then the character will shake, thus revealing himself to a Hunter More here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhunt_2

MrHanky
I was listening to this, this morning whilst on the M25 and im undecided on this subject to be honest. In my younger days I would probably have been outraged by the banning, but now im not so sure. I briefly played the first one and thought it was crap and quite disturbing. Now im not a big horror fan so this probably has something to do with it but it just seemed very wrong (a bit like the film 8mm). I think there is a big difference to watching a film like say hostal and playing a similar game where you immerse yourself into doing some sick things. But on the other hand I can also see the arguments like why should this game be banned compared to something like GTA where you can go get a prostitute, pay her and then go kill her to get your money back. Im confused to be honest Mark
Pot
I think there is a big difference to watching a film like say hostal and playing a similar game where you immerse yourself into doing some sick things. We were watching Hostel this one time, and my mate felt the need to pull his eye out to scare the girl watching it with us... Of course his eye was glass and comes out quite painlessly
Daston
lol I think it is the responsiblity of the parent to decide if their children should play a game or not, not the govenment
Mike
Also in the Reg this morning. If the BBFC were back in the bad old days of James Firman (where everything got banned) I could believe this... but now?! I think they know the press will go insane about this and are just trying to mitigate their responsibility... I'd like to know how they deem some games for affecting than others. There was a similar debate about Bully not so long ago and that turned out to be one of the most moralist games around... Jesus, we're all adults?! Bring back Thrill Kill, that's what I say... Pete
In two minds. One says, common it's only a game. The other says why do I need this level of violence in a game? What is this doing to my psychologically? Has playing games and watching disturbing films affected my emotions? Probably. Rockstar have constantly pushed the boundries in their games - it's cheap advertising. They'll dumb it down a bit and get a release. As I get older I'm starting to think Mary Whitehouse may have had a point.
Mike
As I get older I'm starting to think Mary Whitehouse may have had a point. Noo! come on Pete, where's your rock n' roll spirit?! I did a bit of research on this way back when I did my Psychology degree and 'at that time' (OK, mid nineties, I'm old) already a bunch of studies had been done and no link had been found between games and any adverse psychological effects - likewise with films. I think if you're a mentalist, any random thing could tip you over the edge - and if anything violence in games could potentially act as a 'safety valve' for nutters. This is plain and simple a publicity stunt, but I do admire Rockstar for not giving a f*ck... (and of course their top notch gaming output). Too many companies try too hard at looking good and doing the right thing.
michael
Seems like it might make it afterall... http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2007/08/28/manhunt_2_beats_ban/ ... in the US at least.
Wez
lol I think it is the responsiblity of the parent to decide if their children should play a game or not, not the govenment I think that depends on the parents, there are a lot of parents which in my mind should never have been allowed to breed.
