FaithStalker
The very kind guys at JIC have given me 2 turbo timers, both off Supra's. I have no idea how to fit them though - the only advice they could give is its usually wired in behind the dash near the ignition. Anyone got any ideas? do i need to cut wires etc? both turbo timers seem to have "proper" connections at the end, at he did say they came off supras ...... if anyone wants the second timer, they can have it for free, (after i've installed one of em and made sure it works !!) cheers
Barry
I've just fitted an HKS timer to my car. There was also a seperate wiring harness I needed but its really simple to do if the connectors are already there. Two bolts to remove the underneath of the steering column, the reach up behind the ignition barrel and unplug the plastic connector block from it. This should be the same connector as one of those found on the turbo timer. Just plug in..... You will also need to run a wire round to the handbrake warning light. If you remove the plastic cover round the brake lever you will find a wire there surrounded with a sort of foam shielding, just tap into that with the 1 remaining wire from the turbo timer. Oh, and you'll also need to earth it..

HOw do i tap into wires? do i need some kinda connector, or a stanley knife and masking tape?? and why does it need a handbrake connection? are these instuctions for facelift or previous mk4's? Barry
It depends on what make of timer you have. The one I have in a HKS jobbie. All I had to do was un-plug the loom from the ignition, plug that into one of the connectors on the turbo timer, then, there was another connector on the turbo timer that went into the socket that the original connector came out of. So basically the turbo timer is just pluged in-line to the wires to the ignition switch... Its was: ECU ------ Ignition switch is now: ECU ------ timer ------ Ignition switch. FaithStalker
ahhhhhh it all becomes clear.... maybe the HKS one detects the handbrake as a cue to start the timing ! i'll try and butcher my Supra this weekend then.........
Barry
Oh sorry, I forgot to reply to that bit. It needs to be wired to the handbrake as the turbo timer will not allow the engine to carry on running unless the handbrake is 'on'. If you have removed the keys and the turbo timer is keeping the engine running, as soon as you let off the handbrake it will cut the engine and switch off the timer. A safety feature as well as a security one. Will not let you remove the keys while driving and if anyone brakes into your car while the engine is running it will kill the ignition when they release the hand brake and imobiliser switches on. FaithStalker
I think that might be a HKS feature, these probably dont have that, they just give you a time and you sit in the car until the countdown is 0 !!!! i dont think all turbo timers will keep the engine running! Barry
Oh, I thought that was the whole point of a turbo timer. To allow you to remove the keys and lock the car while the engine still runs. What is the make and model you have?
FaithStalker
I'll take a look tonite and bring in the details tomorow. I think only high end turbo timers allow engine running/nokeys type stuff....
Adam_SG
Is your second one still up for grabs, if so it would come in handy. Cheers Adam
FaithStalker
I've already had an email from someone about it sorry Adam.

francesca
All turbo timers keep engine running for set period of time, if you switch off & remove key without setting handbrake it will switch off after 5 secs regardless of what time you have set (HKS). If you have PITA alarm system from JIC you can't lock car until it stops either - but you get used to that. Good for the turbos to have one. FaithStalker
Finally dug out the 2 free turbo timers i got from JIC, TB-308 and TB-307 , both made by FET, both have lots of wires, some go into a nice connector, some dont, one white one has a little plastic sheath with a gold connector at the end , theres a black one with nothing at the end just bare copper wire ! i am assuming, connector = back of ignition white wire = earth? black wire = handbrake? what is confusing is that i thought it went connector from supra---> turbo timer--->back into supra sort of "looping" through the timer, but theres seems to be only 1 connector on the timer.....does that mean i need a harness or something ? I'll search on the net for these timers for instructions etc....but has anyone already got one of these? ps. wires scare me
Guest Martin F
I think black is more likely to be the earth connection.
