i know what you mean about your last comment Steve. Its strange that you sometimes see bodybuilders walk like that. I have felt concious that i might do it occasionaly, but when i realise that and try to pull my arms in, they seem to rest in a place that doesnt feel natural and can make the muscle just behind and below the shoulder (not sure what thats called) feel weird. But certainly have to agree to your comment with 'some' of the guys you see at the gym :)

I was quite chuft with myself last night doing free weight dumbell press and started 10 x 20kgs's then 10 x 30kgs's, 10 x 40kgs's finishing on (and just about squeezing out) 10 x 50 kgs's.

I

10x 50kgs is that 50kgs in each hand?

Thats impressive! :)

wow thats pretty good mate, the most ive ever lifted was about 120kg, but then again im no where near your size. Deadlifts and squats are where its at though, i trained for about a year with little gains, then incorperated deads and squats and gained 2 stone in 3 months.

Unfortunately my commitment to training is only strong when im single, and as soon as im with someone it just get pushed away.

But hoping to get back into it after uni in the summer. Commitment is the key ingedient over any steroid or protein shake.

Ive studied effects of steroids in my A Level PE days.....whatever anyone says its not good for you period, those figures are impressive though, I always find my forearms giving out during heavy dead lifts! I want to avoid using straps if I can though....any tips ;)

have you studied the affects of the lesser drugs i.e. creatine etc that places like Holland and barrett sell ?

10 x 50kgs in each hand, its taken me 8 years to get there. The hardest thing is to get the bloody things off the bench and get into position to start.

Deadlifts and squats are where its at though

agreed but the problem i get is i tend to end up doing my back in. I've tried wearing belts but no matter what weight i use i end up crippled the next morning

Not really, it was a bit of a sketchy subject when I was studying and was fairly new to the scene, I have used it before as have may of my friends, only things I have drawn from it was that your kindneys are worked harder while using it so take a complete break every month or two to let your body recover and drink lots of water. We also learn that the doses outlined on the packs are complete shit, most manufacturers label it up as loading phase, maintainance phase which is totally not needed, my tutor always used to say half the dosage they give you for a more accurate amount as the rest prob wont be used in your body and either crapped or pissed out. The makers of these products do it so you rush out and buy more and more.

we studied protein powders as well, good and bad points, weight gainers proved to be the worse out of the lot, most loaded with sugars to bump up the calorie content.

As you probably already know, eat loads of good quality foods and avoid the powers, magic pils etc only use these to supplement your already protein rich diet :D

pretty much what i've heard before. I take the capsuals, it states to take 6 a day but i normally only take 3 and like you said every other month. personally don't think they do anything but i've heard from huge body builders that they do so whilst i still have them i'll use them up.

cheers!

Over the years i've got stuck at particular weights on bench press but found that if you stick to barbell press for a few weeks then switch to dumbell press for a few weeks when you got back to barbell again (vice versa) i found i could lift more - strange.

I think the main secret to training is to have a very competitve mate train with you as you'll compete against each other and push each other so much you can't even lift your arms at the end of training let alone the bar. Just make sure your other half don't have some DIY she wants you to do when you get home cos thats a killer and you'll end up with wonky shelves.

actually THE secret is not to destroy yourself at every session but to work up over several weeks/months to a personnal best.a week of extra heavy training should be followed by an easier week to aviod overtraining. all world class lifters rarely work above 80% max lifts untill last few week prior to a major competition. if i tried 3x bodyweight deadlifts for reps every week my back would be completly destroyed by now

are you a weight lifter or a bodybuilder, i used to bodybuild even competed at a local level, did all the steriod thing (was 17stone at 5ft 9) but the effects of the steriods outweighed the way i looked i was very violent had no balls mood swings,i could do nothing at all except eat and train, its so easy to become obsessed!now i am a healthy 15 stone i still train 3 times a week.now i just obsess about my f**kin supra ...anyway enough of that good lift mate!

I thought about this thread at the gym today, and I have a question. I should clarify that I don't lift weights at all, and this is genuine interest - I'm not trying to start an argument.

What is the point of taking steroids? I understand what they do (at least, roughly) - but if you take steriods and then lift xxx weight, aren't you partly just proving what the steroids can lift? Do you get the same sense of achievement as you would if you didn't take them?

yeah I totally agree and maybe what i said was missleading...

what i was getting at is so many people go to the gym to use it as a social gathering and not there to train or if they do they go at it half heartedly. If you have someone to go with that is motivating/competitve you'll end up working harder whether it'll be lifting heavy weights or cardio training for the marathon.

Bodybuilding and weightlifting are a life style - its something that you enjoy for many years as you sculpt your body into the shape you want over that time.

In my youth i squated till my legs could not move, till i was sick in the toilets after - i gave 100% each session and could never get past 11st.

Now i have just turned 40, 15st 10lbs, im in the best shape of my life (after recovering from near fatal accident some years back) and can lift so much more now but without the fear of injury.

I did my heaviest tricep press last week - 110kg and over 100kg bicep curl (non steroid, plenty of house work:p)- i applaud all those people who strive to better their life by wanting to be fit and healthy and as BIG as an 'effin shire horse :D People who knock steroids are entitled to thier oppinion and those guys and gals are entitled to take a supplement that is not illegal to own at their own risk, as do poeople who may smoke or drink etc etc :eyebrows:

Any1 needing private personnal training drop me a pm ;)
