I always find it difficult keeping my back straight which isn't good.

I've started to raise up the bar when it's on the floor by putting a few plates underneath, without them I bend my back too much when I start lifting .

270kg is heavy!

raising the bar by plates or supported by a powerrack is known as partial deadlifts good for getting past sticking points or for extra overload. from the bottom pin of a powerrack i go 300kg+

I think I need to improve my form, the deadlift is a great exercise! :)

One of the guys I train with wants to start taking steroids so looks like I'm going to be left even further behind! That weight is just mental, how long have you been training?

been training for 20 years deadlifting pretty much once a week unless injured or on holiday. my first deadlift was about 90 kg if i remember at 9 stone bodyweight. my aim was always to get stronger an stronger instead of getting bigger.its not all about steriods there are loads of guys in our gym on steriods weighing 4 stone more than me who cant lift anywhere near as much.the right training and diet are where its at and of course GENETICS.there are 2 types of muscle fibre made from slow and fast twitch cells.persons with more fast twitch cells are more explosive/powerfull and those with slow twitch cells generally are better at endurance .its all about making the best of wot u are born with.steriods give me about 10-15% more power.i attribute my stregth more to my norwiegen mother as a lot of good strength athletes come from there.

What steroids do you use and what about the risks?

i wont detail the different types it wont mean much but testosterone is one of them

lots of bad press about steriods but after 15 years of use on and off with no health issues attall i have found the right combination which suits me with very little side effects. most side effects are down to user error/lack of knowledge.the worst i get is a few spots at certain times and the odd temper tantrum(never violent) but then i am know to be very easy going some guys who are a bit unstable can get very stupid using strong steriods hence the bad press

i think the risks are offset by good eating /exersice an not much booze.

i know a guy of 65 similar body type to me who has been taking loads of steriods for 40 years who is still going strong yet his twin brother has just died and he never took anything and led a clean life.

the way i see it is this if your in intensive care at hospital with serious body/tissue damage then what do they give you ?fags and booze?.NO steriods in controlled doses.

think about the last statement

Fair play to you. That deadlift sounds real good at your body weight. The steroids dont work without the dedicated training and lifestyle, some people seem to think they do....

Congratulations fella. And thanks for a very interesting read.

Once had a Norwegian mate name of Knut. Stupid strong, massive bloke, could pick up a full keg of beer and throw it 10 feet.

I'd just want to drink it, but impressive all the same:d

thats awesome mate! I have to say i have never done dead lifts, not really sure why, but there isnt really a decent facility to do them on at my gym. I know nothing about steroids and am really not intereted in getting involved with them, but the only thing i have started taking as a supplement in the last 6 weeks is creatine along with my normal daily protein drinks, and my strength has gone through the roof since doing so, am able to lift much heavier than i was and also for more reps, but then again, since having the tattoo i have decided to plough myself into the gym and get bigger/stronger, which in turn has made me eat better as well, so its possibly a big circle with everything thats making me see a change

well done matety thats bloody impressive.

I've been going to the gym fairly regularly for about 8 years now and deadlift is something i could never get into. I suffer from bad back too often but the only time i can get even slightly near that sort of weight is doing shrugs.

I was quite chuft with myself last night doing free weight dumbell press and started 10 x 20kgs's then 10 x 30kgs's, 10 x 40kgs's finishing on (and just about squeezing out) 10 x 50 kgs's.

I good few years ago when i was in my prime:rolleyes: i was tempted with steriods but decided against it. I've used creatine, amino acid, protein drinks etc but personally think it does jack shit and more for the plasebo affect ? what do you think ?

also over the years my weight has gradually increase to 14st and i'm 5foot9inches. I've tried loosing weight but like my food too much plus i tend to loose my strenth when i do, any advice ?

anyways I'm off down the gym now to do a much needed leg workout - i tend to neglect them, my mrs says i look like Jonney Bravo...

oh don't you just love those posers that walk around the gym with fake lat syndrome where they believe their lats are so big they have to lift their arms up to make themselves wider - that cracks me up:p
