chilly
They wear wings as anyone that does the jumps course can even the penpusher in SHQ. They don't wear the covetted pink hat :D P company doddle Three or four years ago they did a feasability study to actually dissolve the RAF reg. One of the only reasons they managed to stay afloat was the fact that the RAF has no other battlefield medical trained personel, or training facilities for the likes of CCS. Just goes to show theres no such thing as a good solid job for life really. Theyv'e also handed over the reigns of Rapier to the Army as well. But securing and maintaining security of an airfield is their bag (Basra). They are also involved in the Special Forces support group, and I belive they are talking about expanding the regiment. He rang the assessors and asked them to come to HIM I think he's still waiting. Seriously though, good luck Greg, and don't touch anything mechanical, I have visions of you breaking the gym equipment...

Sheefa
Hi guys, Thanks for the nice comments and cheeky ribbing you bastidos! Had a fantastic time and it went really well. It was the PROAC (Potential Regiment Officers Acquaintance Course) I did and damn it wasn't easy. Fitness went well but the Assault course was bloody hard, especially having to do 2 rounds almost immediately after doing the bleep test, PPTs, swim etc. Still I managed to get over the 9ft wall with a lot of grinding! My arms are caning today from the monkey bars etc too. Interview went well and so did the presentation so very happy there. I had a good few drinks in the Officers Mess too and had some great talks with the guys going into action and those undertaking the JROC course. Next stage is OASC! The Regiment is one hardcore branch, and I mean hardcore. Their training is like nothing I've seen before. Should I pass OASC you have to do the JROC (Junior Regiment Officers Course) which lasts for 37 weeks and is some of the hardest shit you'll ever experience. My chosen squadron should I get in will be II Sqd or the Queens Colour Sqd possibly who are more actively involved in the field now, field role first ceremonial duties second. The Airbourne Sqd is absolute quality and if you think it's easy to get into - THINK AGAIN! They have a 3-week Pre-Para course which includes plenty of 28km tabs and many endurance runs, plus loads of GPMG gun runs too. It's damn hard and there's a massive failure rate. To put it in perspective they have to do 3 rounds of the Assault course in 8 minutes or under to pass. I'm pretty fit and did quite well and managed 2 rounds in 11 minutes (but that included 3 small runs inside the course too so take off about 2 mins). NOT EASY! Dangerous Brain - cheers buddy for the pointer about your mate. It may well be worth having a chat with him if that's OK as I could really do with some good pointers for the final OASC stages Per Ardua translates to 'Through Adversity' and looking at some of the photos and vids, you can see why! MMM I think this is why they are being kept on and can't advertise their wares much. Those in the know can vouch for the raf regs involvement with "the reg" Indeed bud. Most of the RAF Reg actually go on to be Special Forces and yes, a few members of the Reg are currently serving with the Special Services Support Group. There are 6 Field Squadrons now and many of the guys believe losing the Rapier was a good thing - even if they believe the Army don't have a frikking clue how to operate it! The Army use something stupid like 4-6 personnel to use it where as the RAF Reg only need ONE to operate the generator, weapons, tracking etc. But hey, basically through talking to the Officers in the Mess they got rid of the Rapier and gained another Field Sqd so they're happy! the joint cbrn regt is losing the raf reg element soona dn they now dont have rapier so there isnt much left for them No idea where you got that from bud, they certainly haven't got any plans to do this - in fact quite the opposite! Plus, II Sqd (Raf Paras) were chosen over the typical Army Paras to engage in hostilities in Sierra Leone for a reason mate! Anyways, it was a great experience and whilst every muscle of my body kills today, it was well worth it and has given me the extra motivation to pick up my fitness and do whatever I can to get through. Thanks for all the support guys. Will keep you all updated. Greg

chilly
30 good men to use it Just remember, they are the boys with the experience! Give them respect and don't micro manage, and in return you'll get respect back!! Believe me, after 19 years in the RAF, the only good Officers I have met are those that listen to their troops and back them when they are right!! Look forward to bumpin into you.
