Le Mans

Anyone else made it back from Le Mans yet? Thought the traffic jam getting out of Houx Annexe was going to have us there 'till next year.

Reckon the guys with the Pirate ship had the best idea for transport given the weather. Amusingly the 'pool police' shut our pools down and demanded we emptied all the water there and then without any care for the consequences to our neighbours. Shame after getting drenched in a very excitable 3 man execution/panic to unscrew the push button tap and fit a standard twist type with the mains supply still on.

Got back half an hour ago.Ive been trapped there since Friday the 1st!;)

I was working for Creation with their new car. Each driver had a go at crashing,so on the bodywork front,I was kept busy.

It was a shame as all the team has put so much effort in to the project over the last few months.:(

Roll on the next one......

Yeah, I only just made it back last night, last train and only got on that with 1 minute to spare!

The weekend was cool - certainly an eye opener! The organisation of the place was dire, especially leaving the site on the sunday. The journey back took us 7 hours! where it only took about 4 from Calais to get there.

Saw4 other Supras there from the UK, wayney, a red L 5SUP? a mauve coloured one with a veilside spolier coming out of the Alain Prost karting location, and Simon B driving like a loon around the site with a blue TVR in hot pursuit :)

We got on fine... just turned up around Friday lunchtime, went to the campsite where Wayney was supposed to be at, no problems getting in there, bought tickets from the camppsite, again no problems.

Didnt have any issues really, biggest mistake we made was not taking any beer/ meaningful food, but the car was pretty full with clothes and tent stuff.

We were in the middle of the track not too far from the Porsche curves... the sound was great throughout the night but I got a pretty good sleep which suprised me :D

Oh and the weather was appaulling, rain and sun on and off all Saturday and Friday, but on Sunday it just pissed down. I drove for 7 hours in pissing rain all the way back. That was hard work :) Car performed well and my new brakes feel really good.

Glad to hear you had a good time apart from the weather!!

A few years ago my dad and I went and it never stopped raining for the whole weekend. We returned on the Saturday night to fond the tent as flat as a pancake because of the sheer weight of water!!:D

Can't wait for next year. Serious road trip me thinks!!

Got back last night about 7ish... feel crap. i think this had something to do with the 408 bottles of beer we drank!. We had a nice wall though!

The evo did ok, apart from when i hit traffic down there and the coolant decided to come out the overflow. Checked the next morning and there was none in the resevoir - but the rad was still full. weird. temperature gauge normal but the apexi fc read it at 107.

Bloody awfull weather - but then again i was in the 1 star campsite with the cow sheads so i was nice and dry :-)

Saw a silver supe at houx annexe roundabout on friday night lighting up his rears and tried to catch up a black supra coming home up the M20 about 6ish.

Got to go to work now...slept in.. bugger...

what a nightmare getting out of there!! im sure a fair few people missed their ferries and trains that night, i ended up staying in one of those formule 1 hotels which only costs 29euros for a 3 person room:rolleyes:

and the organisers really need to pull their fingers out!

apart from that and the weather it was ok!

any one looking for an alternative i seriously recommned checking out the nurburgring 24hr race it was on the weekend befor

much better viewing spots, more classes of car (fair few jap cars etc) and german organisation so no wondering where you are!

and all the atmosphere!;) (maybee due to the beer supermarket in adnau!)

I'm assuming I saw you Dave H during our pit walk. We were chatting to the guy from Shell fuels by the tanker and I saw someone 'finishing'(?) some carbon fibre parts on the Creation car around the back of the garage. The team needs more sponsorship judging by the amount of space left for murals. Looked good though.

Stood next to the silver Supe that did a couple of burnouts on the roudabout. I was the guy on the petrol go ped that kept chucking its chain off but did at least carry the beer there for us! Its a shame the roudabout gets so 'nasty'. Wouldn't dare take the Supe on the roundabout that late on. It was bad enough when we took 3 (just for Le Mans) XJS's 2 years ago.

Saw Ben-san (?) in his striped Supe on the way back, waved to another silver Supe under the bridge by Porker curves and a red Supe with graphix parked next to our convoy at Carrefour.

Luckily we found a sneaky side exit off the Peage at Rouen on Sunday night and avoided the 2 hour queue and paying! Made the F1 at Coquelles for 11.45 after leaving the campsite at 2 though!! Grrrrrrrrrr

You see that nutter in the 1 series bmw... A kid of 4 could of driven better than that guy.. I'm shocked he didn't hurt anyone..

The pirates in the boat were quite funny, but we left when we saw the white fiesta with the french people in have its doors bent and the chav's tried to shake the bejesus out of it.

Remember squeezing past a white clio that was getting rocked about violently. We left when we saw an Elise get kicked for no reason which was around that time. I feel a little embarrassed to be part of a mindless mob like that - there's quite a few rants on PH about it. The guy in the yellow Saab amused me (must have been drunk!). The Pirate ship and Judge Dred mobile were top quality as was the firework display which must have cost thousands.

He he, me driving like a loon, surely not ;) Had a great time as usual despite the weather. The car ran faultlessly and is sooo fast now! I've got some great footage of our convoy flooring it through the tunnel on the way back.

Quick tip for getting out (ok, I know a bit late now) - go watch the end from Arnage, then you can get out no problem. Mind you, this year it was a total mudbath up there when it pissed it down the last hour. Also, we always stay in a hotel Sunday night, Treuville this year. Then you can have a final pissup before heading back on the Monday.

The annexe roundabout was shit this year, just too many people and too many arseholes.

Shame about the Creation Dave, felt sorry for you each time it got crashed, which was a few! I was going to pop in and see you Friday but it absolutely pissed it down when we were in the pitlane so we legged it for shelter!

Good news for Shorty and the Rollcenter team though, 4th overall!

Ed must have had to drill holes in that thing to let all the water out by the end. Most people hit the up button on the windows when they see water coming their way, he obviously found the roof down button instead!

Got back late last night after missing the ferry as the TVR Cerb in our convoy broke  and I ended up towing him along the 2hr peage queue on the A28 south of Rouen and then throught Rouen. We missed out ferry from Boulogne by 45mins. Had to pay an extra £65 to get on the next boat.

I never go over to the Houx roundabout, just not my scene anymore, and it's probably because of all those antics that the ACO and the Gendarmerie got so arsey and over officious this year by closing the Arnage to Mulsanne section of the track on Friday.

Ended up in Arnage Centre Ville whereby I completely ignored SimonB (sorry I didn't see you but my pal Bret spoke with you in the black Velside) for a baguette or two and where most of the drunken masses ended up going to because of the closure at Indianapolis. If people have nowehere to go or nothing to do they go to a bar and get pissed. Go figure.

That's 13 Le mans completed now without a speeding ticket :D luck rather than judgement shone through this time especially on the final dash to the ferry.

Sorry I didn't get to meet up with anyone, but it's satisfying to know that up a Tetre Rouge they've improved the viewing area so I might be able to use my "Stephen Hawking" special chair next year if my back doesn't get any better. :D

Simon, our campsite was about 500 yards from the Porsche curves.. I think the best thing to have done would have been to move the car the other side of the track the night before or something, as there was only a single carridgeway road funnelling the entire campsites out of, where the michelin bridge is.

RE Loon.. hehe, trust me, after what happened to me Friday night thats how I would have driven from then on, the happy friendly people at the sides of the road wanting burnouts turned into a bunch of pissed chavs who got a bit wound up if they didnt get their wishes!

Next year (if I go) I'm contemplating just getting a hotel outside of Le mans. Thats what a bunch of guys I know did, shame I didnt stay with them tbh.. and at this place one of the people staying there had a Le Mans spec F40!

Yeah, real shame they closed that, that was one of the best bits of Mad Friday. I think it was because there was at least one hit and run accident down there last year.

I would never turn up Friday night, that would be a nightmare! Think I was demonstrating the power to one of our guys in the passenger seat ;)

It's a real shame about the roundabout. Our guys were one of the people to start the whole mad friday burnout thing, but that was on a straight and the crowd were out the way. The stupid water pistol thing annoys me too, don't see what's funny about opening people's doors and throwing water bombs in. Then you've got nutters setting fireworks off in their hands. The last couple of years it's got so full of twats it's no fun any more.

Did anyone see the Legends race this year? I've never got up early enough before but this year one of the entrants was one of the guys we always camp next to, Dan. He was in the 31 car, a TVR Grantura. It was actually a brilliant race, loads of action at the Dunlop esses where we were! He finished 41st overall and 5th in class I think.
