Chris Wilson
After countless track days with near 100% reliability the old engine in my R33 Skyline cried enough. Not sure if it was oil surge due to the new circuits banking and rather demanding corners for a none dry sumped car, or just plain old age, but number one rod made a successful bid for freedom out the side of the block. It looks, through the big hole in the block, like rod bolt failure, although t did have new Tomei bolts in it when I last had it apart. Otherwise it's on a stock bottom end. For fun I fired up again in the pits, and it still would run Jane drove it down to the circuit and complained it wouldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, and I found a split wastegate hose. Maybe she over revved it in her frustration to pass me in a 7.5 tonner Luckily I had the Zeus in the truck, and ran that for the rest of the day, we took the Skyline in case the Zeus failed noise testing (there wasn't any as it happened... ), and to learn the circuit in. It managed 3 laps Towed the thing home, guess I'll really have to pull my finger out, finish Sharpies engine and get on with my new one now! Anglesey now has one of the finest drivers circuits in the UK, and you MUST try it.
Thorin
Anglesey now has one of the finest drivers circuits in the UK, and you MUST try it. I'd love to! Will have to wait until my funds recover somewhat though So, new engine then, converting to dry sump? Anything else planned or will it just be bung a new engine in and swap parts over? Chris Wilson
Dunno yet, too busy to really get my head around it I'll decide when I strip it, I should be able to see if it was oil flow failure or mechanical breakage. I suspect mechanical (rod bolt) but I am just guessing from being able to see one crank rod journal through the `ole.

A mate of mine used to have a modified Peugeot 405Mi16 that threw a rod at about 140MPH... he said it slowed down quick AA man came out and said, "ok lets just try and get it started then", my mate said, "well ok but I found this lump of piston that may be needed"
Pete
No excuses not to get that beastie engine finished now then. I had a look at the Anglesey website, has a good aerial photo - http://www.angleseycircuit.com/news.html Looks great. http://www.angleseycircuit.com/_wp_generated/wpb37064d8.png
ivan
I popped in to see the new circuit last week when I visited my Daughter in Llanfair.................gogogoch. Looked very nice from what I could see from the pit area. Didn't get a chance to play though as hadn't realised I was going to be in the area. SteveR
Is it clockwise or anticlockwise? I don't like the idea of driving flat out towards a cliffedge!
ivan
The driving I saw was clockwise. It doesn't look that bad on the ground. Good job too.
