michael
I know nothing about the stuff, a bad experience with a bottle of it many years ago means I've stayed well clear. Fathers day tomorrow, the old fella likes whisky and I've picked up a bottle of Lagavulin, 16 year old for him - is this an OK choice or is it crap? I just wanted to get him a half decent bottle that he wouldn't buy for himself.
Max Headroom
Lagavulin Single Malt is a single malt Scotch whisky produced on the island of Islay. It has been described as the "aristocrat" of Islays. It has an unmistakable, powerful, peat-smoke aroma. Described as being robustly full bodied, well-balanced and smooth with a slight sweetness on the palate. From Wiki, looks like not a bad choice at all, although I prefer Cardhu myself
Pete
Assuming he likes single malts then he should enjoy that...I would

Eve
My dad is into his whiskeys and he certainly offers this up during the new boyfriend induction so probably a good choice. Let us know how it goes down...
Havard
I'm not buying for your father Oh!! Does it have to be your own father then?? H.
Mike M
Lagavulin is lovely stuff but its and aquired taste just like Laphroaig / Ardbeg & Caol Ila. Dash of water helps open up the flavours too. As said above its peaty and phenolic and very nice. Some non whisky lovers will tell you its like TCP tho.
SUPRALOOPY
why pioson it with water??
Mike M
why pioson it with water?? Only a little bit mind, but its common to add a dash of water to stronger malts. Try it with Laphroaig, works wonders. All down to personal taste tho isn't it? Most malts i'll take straight but the Islay ones and Talisker are nice with a little water. Ewen
If I was your Dad, I'd be happy with the whisky. I'd pass on the 16 year old though.
Thorin
Not had that particular one. A lot of the Islay stuff can be a bit stong, I know Ardeg is an "aquired taste" shall we say.
ellis
Whiskey with an 'e' is a blend of more than one type of whisky. Whisky with no 'e' is a single malt! Thats all I know apart from the fact that, aged 15, I got so ill on whisky and black that my mum screamed when she opened the front door to find a sticky, purple goo below my bedroom window that apparently still stains the concrete to this day!!! Now, even the merest whiff of the stuff (and brandy) makes me want to heave more than the thought of Lisa Riley sat on my face after she's been on a 5 mile run!! Thorin
Whisky is used for whiskies distilled in Scotland, Wales, Canada, and Japan. Whiskey is used for spirits distilled in Ireland. Nothing to do with blended or single malts.
