RedM Posted June 15, 2007 Share Posted June 15, 2007 What a journey in to work this morning. Naturally I was in 'That f**king barge' AKA Teh Supra. Floods galore. One DCW near Wakefield was awash as the kerbs were holding in the water and the drains had been overwhelmed. Best of all was the silly, daft cow poor, unfortunate woman who had got her car, a Porsche Cayenne 4x4, stuck in the opposite carriage way. Then, nearer work I had rivers flowing across the road. Took it steady at about 40 (in a 50 zone) and some muppet went to overtake on double whites. Sadly for him the area is a known flooding spot and the cops were at the bottom of the hill. Oops! Drove through some more huge floods and made a bus move over. I figured I needed the shallow line more than he did. Now the road is closed due to people crashing because of the floods! Great fun all told but I'm sad that I missed a flooded Maserati as spotted by my boss. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Drive through it as fast as you can, or leave it in 1st and drive through it sensibly I suppose. I'm sure someone will let you know when it happens! Rob Posted June 15, 2007 Share Posted June 15, 2007 Don't forget the supra air intake is very high in the bay, so you can easily drivethrough 2 ft of water. Some cars have an intake down below the bumper and will drown in a few inches. I once drove through a flood that was littered with dead cars, and had water splashing over the bonnet. People were agog. I went through at about 10-15 mph vaguely remembering something about not overtaking your own bow-wave. There's an off-road thing with that where you can use the lower water trough behind the bow wave to get you through water deeper than your intake. Meadowhall area has been under water and it took me an hour and half to get off the SLIP road at jct 34! 3hrs to get from wakefield to work in sheffield! wish i came off at 36 now! wrenlea Posted June 15, 2007 Share Posted June 15, 2007 MANY years ago, when I was a kid, outside my parents house there was a flood of around a foot or so of water. Most cars were ploughing sensibly and slowly through it. Then this Jag came ploughing into it at some loony speed like 20mph plus and sent water all over the gardens on both sides of the road. He then came to a steamy embarassing halt, having totally flooded everything under his bonnet. Then, seconds later a VW beetle drove into it not quite as fast as the Jag but much faster than everyone else, fairly dramatic bow wave.... all the way through and off into the distance ..... really funny.
