Muse at Wembley tomorrow

I loved Rodrigo Y Gabriela, awesome stuff, thought Dirty Pretty Things were wank and despite not liking The Streets I really enjoyed their set, lot of fun. Muse were awesome, unsurprisingly, even better than their last show at the Arena in November I reckon.

Sorry this is a bit late in the day, but I haven't been up all that long, and we had to go shopping first thing!

Well, what can I say, that was a fantastic concert!

Took bloody hours getting there, and developed a problem with car*, hours waiting, then 2 glorious hours later, it was all over. Then hours getting home again. Eventually got home around 4am. Only a brief delay at Wembley Park subway station, what with all those people trying to get away. I was impressed by the police horses though. So well trained, shame about the coppers riding them though ;) Luckily it only started raining when we were leaving, so not too bad really.

The new Wembley Stadium is 'awesome' (to repeat a well known phrase!), an enormous area of land and sea of seats. I wouldn't have liked to been at the back, you'd have to have used binoculars to see them. Very impressive stage and screens though.

Dirty Pretty Things were weak. Only a couple of tracks were worth listening to. The Streets, although I didn't like them before, I don't dislike them as much now! Would be a good set in an arena etc. Wembley Stadium was a little big for them.

Muse's set was longer than previous, and as Digsy says, they opened on Knights of Cydonia, which was a bit of a shame, because it needed the full attention of a warmed up crowd. Quite a few people commented that they were looking forward to hearing it, although they'd already performed it!

The choice of songs was different to previous concerts too. More slower tracks and lots of piano, which was great to hear. It was a great success anyway, as they did play virtually all my favourite tracks, new and old. I think Soldier's Poem was a little lost there, but 'The Shadows' track was a delight. Stockholm Syndrome is always a showstopper though. :)

I'm currently still wearing one of the official t-shirts that I bought during the waiting, waiting and waiting!

Overall it was a thoroughly excellent adventure, but I'm knackered! Anyone going today will have a fabulous time, but I don't envy the journey home!

*On the way up to where I was going to park the car, I developed a boost leak. I think the turbo is spinning (very loud whistling), but I have very little boost. I think I may have a split in one of the pipes, which is letting air escape (any comments?). That'll teach me to race Tuscans won't it?! I did win though, 'R4 YCY' tried for a bit then pulled over. Probably preserving his engine from explosion I'd thought! :)

Apologies for the late post but here goes :)

God what a day! What a concert!

Started off at 12.50 when I got picked up and by 12.52 was sat in my local having a pint :) then we drove up to London, was gonna park in the short stay of Heathrow but £38 for 12 hours saw that dismissed, went to park at Hounslow and ended up in Richmond so an hour later and we were at Wembley.

Spent 30 minutes queuing for the only cashpoint around :( and then went in The Parish for a couple more pints :) Quick visit to Maccy D's (yeah not normal trust me) we walked round the whole of Wembley to get to our door, typical :)

Walked in to see My Chemical Romance who were pretty good and got the crowd going fairly well. We were right up in the gods so everyone on stage looked like ants but the sound was spot on.

Concert started at 8.00 almost on the dot .. I, like AndrewOW and a few others here, really can't believe they started with Knights of Cydonia, that really should be their closing track but who am I to argue with Muse :)

Loads of great rocking tracks, Supermassive Black Hole, Starlight, Map of the Prolematique, New Born, Plug in Baby etc some of the slow ones I don't enjoy that much but that's my own personal taste :)

The two women on those massive ballons over head of the crowd was stunning and the big balloons being released at the end was a great touch .. I was shattered at the end and hadn't even been dancing that much, concert ended about 10.10.

Now the saga of getting home! Just before Muse came on there was an announcement saying that the south bound Metropolitan line had been closed so it was only the Jubilee Line running and people were to stay clear of Wembley Park station, doh!

Found out from a copper that some daft scaffolder had decided that it would be a good idea to fall onto the track .. knob!

Left the concert and it took an hour to get to Wembley Park station due to everyone wanting to go the same way, the walkway down to the station was a sight to behold, I have no idea of how many people but the place was packed solid! Finally got on tube and got to Earls Court only to find that our last hop to Richmond had been closed due to engineering work .. at midnight this wasn't funny, dived across to Hammersmith and then spent half an hour debating whether to get a bus or a taxi and then I made the decision to hunt for a taxi, spotted one almost straight away and ran over and said to him "can you take us to Richmond" ...

... now at this point I'd always been on the understanding that any taxi driver in a black cab had to have "The Knowledge" ie a f****ng good idea of where places were in London so when he looked at me blankly and said "sorry I don't know where that is" I almost reached through the window to tear his head off! :)

Luckily my mate has driven round London a fair few times and we told him we'd direct him, how absurd is that, having to direct a London cabbie 5 miles down the road and then being charged £15 for the priviledge of him driving at snails pace!?!? :badmood:

Got back to the car at 12.50 just as the rain started and got home at 2.00am to be greeted by the misses who was up for hearing all about it, got to bed about 3.30 and woke up at 8.50, supposed to be at work for 9.00 .. ah the joys of being able to work from home if need be :)

So all in all, fanflippingamazinglytastic day / concert, partially spoilt by the crappy London transport system and a useless taxi driver, can't wait for the next big concert there! :D

Still hammering the CD player in my car :)

We got picked up at 09:00 and didn't get back home until 03:00 - felt totally knackered the next day. Thank God we didn't go on the Sunday.

I went on YouTube to look for the Knights of Cydonia video last night and was amazed to see the first three pages of hits were people posting their cameraphone footage of the gig :)

*edit* - Quck Q for the peeps who went on Saturday: Did Matt Bellamy or did he not accidentally bugger over on the wet stage early on? I think it was during the second or third number. I missed whatever happened, but the crowd all kind of suddenly cheered / laughed and when I looked at the video screen it seemed as if he was getting up off the floor.

Yes he did slip slightly on the wet floor, but he didn't drop a note or anything. You could briefly see it on the screen.

Very risky those open air concerts. I was quite surprised the stage wasn't set back more under the roof, but peeps in the seats wouldn't see anything then ;)

  • 9 months later...

Bought it but not yet received it. Really looking forward to re-living the concert, what an awesome night especially when they played Plug In Baby, the excitement levels in the audience just went through the roof!!

I've had the CD playing in the car at full volume all week, which isn't good if you're trying to stay within the speed limits, but it just sounds incredible. Again ;)

Yeah, Muse tend to do that to people's driving :D

Might have to get Haarp for my birthday in a few weeks :)
