Alex
Indeed, and you can always just not run the fancy aero glass interface in Vista, in which case it runs just the same as XP anyway. I still prefer Linux AFAIK the Business Edition of Vista is just de-aero'd...so it's not pretty.
Branners
AFAIK the Business Edition of Vista is just de-aero'd...so it's not pretty. business version is de-multimedia'd, it has the aero interface but none of the advanced image editing and none of the HD movie maker stuff. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/choose.mspx and LOL at the OSX comments. I can adapt to a new interface pretty well and I wouldnt even consider running OSX, to give it to my wife and then try to support it would kill me. I have always found Macs unworkable and overly complex for every little thing you want to do. So OSX is not for me Im afraid. JB
Supragal
What's the point in having Vista if you turn off all the features? May as well have XP!!!!
Pete
I've heard nothing good about Vista, Read a few more of my comments then. OS-X is similar learning curve as XP to Vista IMHO.
JustGav
Vista has blatantly ripped off most of the features out of Mac OSX...
robin
Buy vista bussiness as you can downgrade an OEM vista copy to windows XP if you need. Then if after service pack 1 you want to move to vista you can. Best of both worlds.
Thorin
Vista has blatantly ripped off most of the features out of Mac OSX... Which in turn has ripped off a lot of stuff from Linux (well it is BSD based), but you could say they've all ripped of Xerox.
JustGav
Which in turn has ripped off a lot of stuff from Linux (well it is BSD based), but you could say they've all ripped of Xerox. GUI's are ripped off from the original Xerox system I know, but I was referring to some of the new features in Vista and Office 2007... I can't remember the names, things like the active program switcher in Vista, just like Jaguars... erm office 2007 menus look just like the carbon/quartz interface. Don't get me wrong, I happen to like the Mac OSX system, and well linux is something I've been using since slackware 0.91 and I've got a love for it. If it wasn't for the lack of appliations on the old powerpc based macs I would have moved over to Mac OSX fulltime AGES ago, however there just wasn't enough software. Going back to the original thread... I see 4 people so far have voted for vista, ignoring the bijal factor, that leaves 3... I'd be interested to know their comments for MacOSX vs Vista vs XP. RedM
What amazes me is that an Apple G4 Powerbook with only 512mb of memory will happily run Indesign, PS CS3 and several other programs simultaneously. Try the same on my works PC with the same memory and I have to shut each prog down before using the next!

Paul
I've been running Vista for about six weeks with no problems. Core 2 duo with 1Gb of Ram. Microsoft say 512mb of ram minimum, I've got no issues with speed and do similar stuff to what you want to use yours for. From what I gather there is alot of scaremongering over Vista, people are trying to upgrade older machines to it and when it don't work well they slag it off despite it being the pc not the O/S I'm happy with it, it's got a fresh look, easy to get around and some nice improvements, get it now and you're future proofed for a few years. When a mate of mine heard I was getting a new laptop with Vista on he said 'Vista's crap, you don't want to touch it it keeps crashing and slows everything' so I asked him if he had it or had ever used or seen it and the answer came back, No! Since I got it he has had a go with it and thinks it's great:) Like I say, I think alot of the negative comments regarding vista are from people trying it on lesser spec pc's. Paul That is what I based it on... it is a bit of a chicken and egg... I'm not going out and getting a new system because of a new os... when my current system runs happily on my current os. So it is a case of put the new OS on the old system and see... sadly it will give the slightly skewed view.
hogmaw
I have gone with each windows upgrade since it first started all those years ago, all ok but vista is nothing but a pain in the ass, I cannot see any benefits just supposed 'ease of use' upgrades that are more hassle than they are worth. Im going back to XP asap
