johnhay83
i have just bought a replica veilside front bumper from japan, and when i came to measure it against the car it jus seems a bit big! Now i've never attepted fitting an aftermarket bumper on a car before so was wondering what the deal is. when i hold it in place it sticks out roughly 2-3" either side, and has no mounting holes, now the supplier says that the bumper will require modification but is 5-6" total a bit extreme? i thought it should be a tight fit, any help appreciated. the supplier said i can send it back and he will refund me but i just wanted to make sure i'm nnot being a plum before i do, and have the same prob with the next bumper i buy! tooquicktostop
2-3" each side sound very excessive and for a first time novice and no fixings to attach it sound like a body shop only job, and then they may refuse as it is so far out, this is the problem with copies that are poor quality
johnhay83
yeah i thought i did a bit, but the geezer gave the usual crap answer of "we've sold hundreds of these and never had a problem"! so just thought i'd ask, i did replace a bumper on my escort a few years back, but it was a standard one which was a decent snug fit, but needed the holes drilling, but it did fit like it was supposed to, and came with fittings! so should quality aftermarket ones come pre drilled then, and be a direct bolt on with fittings? dini_the_owl
the supe front bumper is very tight to get on, especially if youve got an aftermarket one which dosent use the oem side brackets on the wing,im in the process of fitting my stillen front which is an extremely good fitting urathane one and it still is really tight to get it on properly and ive still had to mod it a little to get a good fit..if its sticking out as much as that id be carefull if its fibreglass as it will crack if you put too much stress on it.most important is check how the side is supposed to fixed! robert_gray
It sounds like that you may have the front bumper suited for overfenders. if you wanna spend a bit more and get them then you may find that they then fit together and by the sounds of it you may have to spend some getting the bumper to fit right. johnhay83
ta, i think i'll send this one back and get a different one!! [GRIN][/GRIN] i do like the veilside kit so will go for that, as i've already got the skirts and rear spats and want the front to match!
paul mac
ta, i think i'll send this one back and get a different one!! are you talking fibre glass here as virtually all FG components will require some sort of work to get a perfect fit dont expect a replacement to be any better
