Chris Wilson
Starting a new thread, curious for any feedback on this. What about stock UK spec cars?
Tricky-Ricky
Maybe a pointless and obvious question, but shouldn't VVTI and UK Supras have exactly the same pump, oil ways filter etc as J spec and N/A? One thing that had occurred to me is there any difference in the oil pick up/strainer mesh size?
Chris Wilson
They do have the same pumps, but not the same fuelling systems
Tricky-Ricky
Surely to contaminate the oil to the degree of causing damage to the oil pump via dilution, not only would the mains, big ends and bores/rings show signs of wear/damage, but i would have thought it would take far more over fuelling than the 9-10 AFRs that the std fuelling system is capable of delivering on the MAP equipped Supras. Chris Wilson
The pump isn't very robustly designed from a wear point of view, I believe it's the first item to wear when oil is fuel contaminated. This wear would go unnoticed, from a pressure and engine operating point of view if it were not for the very small drainage provisions, once oil starts weeping in quantity past the rotor to cover land area. People measure AFR's passionately at WOT, but I have seen some totally bizarre AFR's with various add on gizmos at other throttle openings, even at idle. That's not to say I haven't also seen bizarre;y rich AFR's at WOT, too Failure of the sequential set up to work as designed on MAP sensored engines gives a very rich mixture, which I believe to be another cause of this failure. I stand by my theory
Tricky-Ricky
Good point! maybe the whole FMS leak thing is just Toyota's way of telling us somethings wrong;) PS On other engines i have always noticed if there is fuel contamination from the smell of petrol when checking oil levels.
