RedM
PC vs consoles. You can't really envisage System Shock II on a console, can you? End of. Anyone remember Racing Destruction Set for the C64?

Mike
Hell yeah, the BBC version only had Silverstone of course but the Revs Plus C64 version added Donington too, I have the tape for that but never got around to getting a C64 to play it on. Physics were great, graphics impressive for the time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REVS_%28computer_game%29 That was like time travel. Ian C
PC vs consoles. You can't really envisage System Shock II on a console, can you? End of. Anyone remember Racing Destruction Set for the C64? System Shock II.... play the attached and see if you shiver RDS rocked Even on multitape Well I knew we'd get a bit of "PC vs Console" argy bargy but funnily enough almost every argument pro-console supports my hypothesis The whole "I don't have time to play for hours, I need something for a quick blast" is the epitome of it, really. And I'm not saying it's a bad thing and I'm certainly not trying to act superior because I fritter away more of my life than others playing games! I'm just saying the stuff I, and several other here, like in games has fallen by the wayside because it's simply not a priority now thanks to the console market giving an easier revenue stream for less development effort, due to a much more limited platform and control system. I agree that single platform games will still exist, but I say they will diminish in number as developers move to the easier life of console games. We'll never get a consensus on comparing PCs to consoles, that's apples to oranges and horses for courses and it's daft to try (although arguing about it is just as good fun). But I feel happy that this discussion pretty much agrees with my theory I like co-op. I liked it in Need For Speed and Quake II and System Shock II. There is absolutely nothing out there now, and hasn't been for literally years, that replaces these old warriors, and I lay the blame firmly at the console market. SBDJ
The classic unreal tournament was also an excellent LAN gamer; we used to play it all the time at work. Definately one for the mouse when you run around doing headshots whilst running with the sniper rifle...
Guest CoolsBlue
i havnt played a game in months!i used to be the 'guy who cheaped out on consoles at school' cuz i used to have a chipped PS1 and then a PS2 and got free games while all my mates paid like £40 for one, lol then i just sorta got bored and sold them of....do miss playing vice city and san andreas,VC was the first game i ever got on PS2 and it was the only game i remember having such a fun time playing, and miss san andreas becuase of all the messing around you could do, but VC had this exotic/tropical feeling to the game, but bet if i played it now it wouldnt be as fun, also i was the best, (dont mean to brag or anything) but best at all the splintercell games, even got a psp to get splintercell essentials, i was that hooked on it, would defo get a ps2 setup again just to do all the games over agian:d but now all my time is mostly work, shift changes to 2pm till 1am!!! EDIT, hold on i havnt even talked abt what the title says..lol, yea ps1 and gameboy are the best for me as they were the ones that i had the most fun times playing...simple but hours and hours of fun! also donkey kong 64 thats was real fun but never completed it:(

Hilarious! So consoles are perfect then? That's why you mod them with a soldering iron and their connectivity is just as good as a PC? OK, set up an online game with that 30% then bwaaaaahahahahaha That's so so funny it's going to make me chuckle all day -Ian
Thorin
I agree with Ian, especially with regard to NFS (I've played every version even the first Road&Track NFS on the Panasonic 3DO console which I still have ). Have you read about the NFS ProStreet yet? Supposedly going back to the simulation roots, has the potential to be very good from the sounds of it. http://uk.ps3.ign.com/objects/904/904766.html (curiously only the XBOX360 and PS3 pages have trailers, although it is coming out on PC)
Mike
Splinter cell was a great game. I agree with this statement.. the second one was also good, but the ones after that were.. erm, a bit rubbish.. OK, I've got one for you... 'Pro Evolution Soccer'.. now there is a game made for the console, an awesome game that the PC can never touch! even on a PC you'd play it with a joypad... so that's it.. Consoles are bringing down gaming standards!
michael
...even the first Road&Track NFS on the Panasonic 3DO console which I still have ). No way! I'll be round for a go on that sometime! I remember seeing it as a demo in a shop in Leeds (when I lived out in the country), we were all amazed by it. Probably looks poo now but I'd be interested in seeing it anyway. Test Drive II on the Amiga was another old favourite. "Accolade presents...."

That's why you mod them with a soldering iron and their connectivity is just as good as a PC? They've only modded them to play dodgy games so they deserve to be booted. What did they expect? That's not really a fault against consoles as such, but the people that have gone against the manufacturers terms of use. Test Drive II on the Amiga was another old favourite. Super Cars 2, Speedball 2, Gods...the Amiga really was a superb platform.

Test Drive II on the Amiga was another old favourite. "Accolade presents...." It does indeed look rather poo now, but I remember being blown away by the graphics at the time. It was after seeing NFS and Road Rash on a mates 3DO that he'd just bought that made me go to meadowhall the next day and buy one! The game was great though, played it loads, the supra and rx-7 were the slowest cars in it though but I used to love beating "Mr X" (extremely annoying dude in cut scene videos) in the Supra You could do just over 200MPH on one particular track in the Countach but it took some doing! I'll have to set it up on the big telly downstairs, you're welcome to come round for a game some time Great console at the time, just lack of developer support killed it unfortunately. Lukeyboy2k
Funnily enough we were discussing that classic Cannon Fodder at work yesterday... although this is the reason for that... Original Cannon Fodder on Amiga - legendary game. Really atmospheric. Quite a few levels for that period in time. Sequel to Cannon Fodder - how disappointing. Dull, stupid futuristic levels, rubbish textures. I waited ages for that game. Another lazy, cash-in sequel.
