Chris Wilson
Being a townie and ignorant of many countryside matters I decided to take my farmer friends advice and have our newly acquired field mown. I wanted to get it rollered as it's anything but level, and as a bonus I thought I'd get a few bales of winter haylage for the 2 cows and 2 calves, when they arive next week. To say I was amazed when we got 25 and a half round bales off the land is an understatement, each bale being the best part of 1 ton, as it was chopped, compacting the cut grass more tightly. So for 200 notes we can be sure that they have all they can possibly need, even if it's a very hard winter, and the field is now ready to roller. The field grass should be back soon, especially if we have some of the promised rain this week, and in theory will outgrow their eating needs for the rest of the summer and autumn. An added bonus is the damned foxes can't lurk in the long grass now! The fencing of the back 1/2 of the field is nearly done, just some bottom strands to add, and the link leads for the electric fence stuff adding. I think it's a fair attempt for a townie http://www.chriswilson.tv/mowing/mowing.html

Rob
You may need a leccy fence, if you watched F-Word tonight, one of Gordon Ramsey's lambs was taken apart whilst in the supposed security of The Beckhams land. It looked like something out of Predator, the rear legs were missing, the neck was broken and all the flesh had been stripped. It wasn't a small lamb either. Given what you were saying earlier about possibly keeping big cats, it amazes me that people would actually just let them go back in the '70s. At what point does letting a jaguar go loose somewhere in Hampshire ever seem like the best solution?

At what point does letting a jaguar go loose somewhere in Hampshire ever seem like the best solution? It is electric, I just need to dig the trench for the armoured cable from the workshop to the field to run the fence energiser, and put a water feed in, get a water trough, (an old bath will do for now, but would like something a bit more rustic). Whilst loosing out big cats in the early seventies was very stupid, I don't believe there is any record of a person being attacked by one. I would like to see wolves re introduced, and more wild boar around, myself

Chris Wilson
Are you SURE you don't want to adopt me? Not if you need feeding and cleaning up after, no Got enough of that to do! If you are a good fencer and stand drinks at the pub, maybe....
Supragal
Well I don't drink but I can clear up after animals.... and my horse which I would keep in your fields which isn't quite what you said but fencers are all like tough burly leathery men. Rob
Sure why not, im all for it Velociraptors too? There's a chap in Scotland who wants to re-introduce wild wolves ( I say "Chap" he's some sort of Viscount) but the Ramblers Association are trying to stop him using fences to enclose them as it would block their "right to roam" I say, let them roam amongst the wolves, as long as we don't end up with Were-Ramblers.
