Killing Aliens in video games means desecrating Cathedrals?

What do you make of the whole chuch vs Sony thing then?

The church wants:

An apology for using the cathedral

Withdrawal of the game, or modification of the section of the game to remove the cathedral interior

Sony to make a substantial donation from the games' profits allowing the cathedral's education department to target more effectively those aged 18 to 30

Sony to support other groups in Manchester fighting against gun crime.

It's a fictional game that features a building similar to the Catherdral and involves shooting alien creatures.

Sounds like an excuse for the church to raise funds to fix a roof or buy more gold if you ask me, at the end of the day the scum in Manchester who are carrying out gun crime aren't likely to be inspired by a game and certainly aren't going to recognise the inside of a Catherdral and go down there for a shooting session

I hope Sony stick to their guns (sorry) with this one and don't end up backing down.

I was thinking of buying a gun and indiscriminately going and killing lots of people in Manchester Cathedral, and I've not even played the game!

...to much coverage in the press now, it wouldn't be original, people would just say I got the idea out of the paper.

They wouldn't be complaining if it was in a film... and Tom Cruise was shooting the aliens....? muppets.

Just because it's a 'dirty' video game they're jumping on the 'Hot Coffee/GTA/Manhunt/all games are bad' thing....

So much for this country promoting and being proud of an industry that we're really good at currently...

If this is all they've got to worry about....

Possibly because the film company would have been at the location and probably paid a hefty sum for it's use.

At the end of the day this seems to be about the fact that Sony are making money and the church aren't rather than the gun crime reason they are using.

If you check previous threads - I can think of one in particular - you will discover that I am (was) a devout Christian.

But I have this game and now don't believe in God at all. It has ruined my life.

On the upside, I now plan to buy a gun and I can shoot the next person who dings my car door in a car park. :)

Looking at the game footage last night, the location is a very accurate replica of the cathedral. So if Sony would have had to pay for filming there, why not make them pay for gaming rights too? I'm behind the church on this one.
