Jake
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/newcastle_united/6738687.stm Allardyce reveals Owen exit fears Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce has admitted he is powerless to stop Michael Owen walking out on the club. The England striker's contract contains a clause which means he can go if a substantial bid - believed to be more than £9m - is received. Allardyce said: "If Michael wants to go there's nothing I can do, if another club triggers his release clause. "We're benefitting from a release clause to get Joey Barton, but we could also suffer because of Michael's." Allardyce arrived at St James Park with speculation surrounding Owen's future on Tyneside. The England international arrived at Newcastle in the summer of 2005 in a £17m move from Real Madrid. Is it just me or is this article total boll*cks? So NUFC signed Owen for £17m but gave him a contract that said they would be powerless to stop him leaving if another club offered £9m? Yeah right! So WTF is going on? Is this just their way of advertising him because they want shot of the permacrocked shortarse?
Havard
Who's going to offer 9m for the super midget after he's just spent "forever" out with his last injury!! Probably Spurs!! H.

DrivingTheDream
His release clause drops on a yearly basis. We should cut our losses on the 110k a week and sell him IMO. The release clause will have been negotiated by Owens ppl and NUFC (or Fat Fred) being NUFC will have agreed to it. Michael Owen has cost NUFC so far 35 million. For 12 games of football. He was bought to appease the fans when Souness was under pressure. What a disaster he has been. We were warned by Liverpool fans that he only cared about England. He really is a loathsome little s***e.
Jake
35m? Is that his wages and 17m transfer fees combined?
merckx
Nine million isn't much to pay by today's standards. I'm not sure if we need him , Obefami Martins did fairly well for his first season but you'll always need some cover . If I was Owen I would stay and give Newcastle something back for their money I would only leave if Newcastle wanted this.
garetheves
Man Utd have been linked with him but in my opinion hes not even fit to clean Saha's boots (not that they get dirty as hes injured as much as Owen).
ivan
What a waste of effin money. That applies to ALL football players BTW, just so no-one thinks I'm biased in any teams favour.
MaveriK
We were warned by Liverpool fans that he only cared about England As an Englishman whats wrong with that? 9m for a 20+ goals a season man is cheap if, and its a big if, he can put a season together. As a United fan i would rather gamble 9m on him than 8m of that whinging tit Anelka.

If we sign a striker he needs to have pace in abundance. Anelka fits that criteria and im sure Fergie would get the best out of him.
