Flip
Stripped down my brakes today and fitted my potterfield pads and a pair of 2nd hand disks bought from here as mine were slightly warped. Took it out yesterday and the new disks are worse than my old ones, major warped. Grrrr So, time to bite the bullet and buy some new ones I think, sigh. Is Nic the best person to buy new JSpec disks from? Is there another option on slightly better disks without the expense of going to UK spec ones? TRD ones perhaps? Don't really want to spend out on UK specs as I'd have to swap the wheels (which I have) and buy rubber for them, so it would be £600 for rubber before I start on buying the brakes... Anyway - priced options please
Havard
How much will it cost to go UK spec as it is something I will do once my J-specs run down. Plenty of meat on the pads at the moment, so I don't see the point tbh!! H.
chilli
I'm sure Nic will be able to do you a great price but the problem with discs is that the shipping prices can be a bit high as they are heavy. You could try that Steve Manley Toyota spares chap perhaps (do a search for his number on here) - he does discount oem stuff. are you sure it's the disks 100% and not imbalanced wheels or even a wheel bearing? AlanM
Don't think Nic ships disks cos the carriage is so expensive. Steve Manley is 01865 291333 (direct line)
Flip
Car is spot on cruising or accelerating, and on old disks fine under normal braking. Under heavy braking you'd get wheel shake. With new disks under light braking it shakes, normal braking it rattles and heavy braking it shakes the whole car!!! Yeah, see your point with the shipping costs, I'll try CJ's toyota chap, thanks!! Saves me looking :o) I think the jspecs will be fine with new disks, the Potterfield/Porterfield (whatever!) pads feel very good already, don't want to push hard till I get the disks though, don't want to screw the new pads as well!! Need4Speed
You can buy J-spec discs from Toyota - they're about £70-£80 each - same as UK discs.
Nic
Don't think Nic ships disks cos the carriage is so expensive. Steve Manley is 01865 291333 (direct line) Alan Discs are very heavy and relative cheap, so the postage cost is a big proportion of the delivered price, it actually works out cheaper buying locally. Phil are you sure the discs are warped? A knackered wheel bearing can cause vibration under braking which feels very much as though the disc is warped. Raise the car off the ground and check for any side to side movement of the wheels.
Flip
It wasn't a problem before I started on the brakes last weekend, yes there was a very small amount of vibration under heavy braking, but not much at all, I was just being picky. I can't see I damaged the bearing removing the old brakes, and the unknown quantity is the secondhand discs I bought, so my vote goes to them.
