Hot Auto box?

Justin

Recommended Posts

Did about 250 miles today split into 2 journeys. On the return leg I discovered that the area around the gear lever was quite hot as was the handbrake handle. It seemed that heat was radiating from the bottom of the stick.

Is this norm? Anyone else find this? Could it be the night lights underneath?

Confession: I did slip it into N whilst driving at 30 to hear my new Blitz under revs, only one time though. Is this A) a twatish thing to do and B) Maybe contributed to the heat from the auto box area?

:(

Mike, what an histerical signature note you have there mate. The way I look at it is this: I've been with my missus 7 years (not married tho) and she ain't having me mota.

What is best - Not getting the same old sex from her indoors and driving your very own Supra ............. or getting the same old sex and watching your missus drive your Supra whilst you drive around in her Renault 19

ROFL

:p :p :p :p :p :p

My 6 speed gets warm as well. The Getrag gearbox used in the Supra should only have the original specified oil ONLY by all accounts...problems with other oils have been noted in the US.

On the auto box if the ATF gets too hot the MANU light will flash for several seconds, the box will only allow auto mode until the temperature drops back to normal. The system self protect by automatically switching to normal mode.

The manual does not give any warning about putting the car into neutral whilst driving.

Why don't you buy her one too, think how grateful she'd be!!

Although having said that, I prefer my Supra too

I think all ladies should have Supras Fran. Appologies for the slightly sexist comments above, I know you are one of the few ladies in here.

Perfectly normal, it's just general engine, box and exhaust heat, via a poorly insulated heat route. Slipping the auto box in and out of drive on the move is not a good idea, can lead to lubrication problems, sometimes. Not dire, but just not the best idea! Same with putting them in park or neutral at traffic lights, adds markedly to their wear.

Justin, I did about 350 miles last Saturday. It was the first big run in ages and the day after I'd fitted my new stereo. I noticed it getting unusually warm in that area. seemed to be coming from below the gear stick and the stereo.

Turns out these stereos do get hot - especially at Motorway volumes, and I'd guessed the gearstick heat was just normal on such a long run. Nice to have it confirmend though, there was always a nagging worry about the car bursting into flames etc.

i did 250 miles on Sat. my box didnt get hot at all,

I cant believe your not supposed to shift out of D

while driving, mainly because you need to , to get to 2

when going for some quick o/taking......i think the manual

states that you should come off the accelerator briefly when

changing from ''2' back to 'd' or 'd' to '2'....*i think*

i have gone from 'D' to 'N' and back, mainly when then back

end is on its way round - i find my left hand is quicker than

my right foot off the accelertor - and of course you dont

wanna slam on the brakes, round and round you go....or

even worse....lose speed !!!!!!!!!!!!

is it just me, but after driving quite a few auto's now, they supras

auto box is sex !!!!
