1993 L reg TOYOTA SUPRA 70,000 miles Manual LPG Non-Turbo. T+T April 2008. LPG Conversion with certificate paper. Everything works as should. Bodywork needs a little attention but still looks beautiful. Cat1 alarm and immobisiler, sony flip-face radio/cassette player with 10 disc changer, full leather interior, induction kit, 17 deep rim alloys (need refurb), Headlight conversion with halos, strut brace and the usual big spoiler. Unusual to find a manual one and one that you can run on the same budget as an Escort! Buyer will receive a full tank of LPG for journey home. Any questions please call, offers welcome as we are going on holiday next Friday (15th) and would prefer it sold by then.

Nothing wrong with LPG, if it does not affect the performance and it will save money in the long run why not?

 

I am sure if LPG was fitted to a car like Gamers car (unknown if LPG can be done on a turbo car) then I am sure that his car would not be classed as a shed, would it? It is just that car in the ad does look like a mess.

Turbos don't like LPG for some reason. But it's a viable option on the NA.

 

I think it's because the octane rating is so poo (you lose 5-10% power in an NA by going to LPG) that it dets it's nuts off at any real boost level.

there's a guy over on the aristo forum that's fitted lpg to his Aristo...we'll see how his turbos like it.

 

not sure how long he's had it in there for but doesn't seem to be any adverse effects from what i can see.

Turbos have no problem with lpg, gsw on the aristo site has lpg on his tt and it runs fine, he does lpg conversions for a living, only problem on the supra is where to put the tank, which is not a prob with an aristo, he does 250 miles on £18!, also it makes more power on gas than petrol about 20bhp, how they are mapped the ecu does not know the difference between gas or petrol, £1800 to convert with best kit and lpga approved may have to consider it

LPG has an octane rating of approx 105 to 110 RON, possibly more when mixed as a different propane/butane ratio.

 

Modern port injection LPG systems have no problem with turbo cars. Previous venturi mixer types that mixed the LPg with air prior to the turbos were sometimes a problem as backfire (which some LPG systems do for one reason or another) would blow the turbos apart.

 

The only limit on port injection LPG systems is the maximum boost you can run. The LPG tank feeds the injectors and has a working pressure of about 3.8 bar at 0 deg C. Obviously it needs a positive pressure to inject, so boost would be limited to maybe 2.5 to 3 bar.

At 38 deg C it has a pressure of 12 Bar, so no problem there!!

I bow down to you fountains of knowledge but I would rather eat my own arm than spend £1800 on an LPG conversion when that could be spent getting a few extra ponies or on the aesthetics of the car inside and out. A lot you could do with that money that sure beats the living cr*p out of an LPG conversion I can kind of understand it on the Aristo due to the family dimensions of the car itself but this is a Supra.... It's supposed to polute the world and cost a fortune to run otherwise they would be driven by Chavs and "Green aware" politicians and lets face it neither of them should ever be aloud behind the wheel of a dream!

I was talking to an employee of a LPG conversion company. What I did not expect was the variable quality of the LPG at pumps in filling stations. Apparently most of the gas sold for use in petrol station is scavenged from gas in other tanks.The company that my friend works for, actually sells gas back to the gas supplier. Every vehicle they work that requires tank tests has its gas put into the scavenge tank. Very regular filter changes are essential to keep LPG cars on the road. When I saw the inside of the LPG filter on my landrover I could not believe how much crap had been filtered out in only six months from a substance that I thought was invisible.

 

Unlucky for me my gas ECU has given up the ghost. The company that supply this particular system do not acknowledge that any of their systems can fail, so forget any warranty, they just wont honour it. PM for maker as I don't want to get sued.

How much would it cost in gas to do the 60-70 miles?

 

Not that i'm planning on getting it done, just interested to know.

I have got a problem with mine on tick over, I think it is running a bit rich. There is a guy in Bolton who has said he'll adjust it for me nut I have had other things on!!

I have used mine a couple of times on the motorway but it conks out when I come to a halt.....:blink: I couldn't tell the difference between the two tbh!!

 

I must get it sorted soon!
