England, Beckham, Mclaren etc!

The haze of my anger has dropped enough for me to try to put into words my disgust with Mclaren.

Beckham was yet again our man of the match, although injured he stuck at it and got his reward of two assists from crosses. His country, that he clearly loves, turned their back on him and yet he has come back and played his heart out again.

Out trotts Mclaren and says what a good team performance it was again (err Lampard?) and how well Beckham played. Then pressed about whether Becks was a short term solution or whether he would be in the squad for the next matches he turns tail and refuses to comment. Is he an idiot or what, if the same question was leveled at him about St Lampard he would have without question said of course he will be in the squad.

Just be big enough to admit you made a mistake in dropping him especially if the likes of Jenas can make the squad.

I used to have respect for Mclaren but quiet frankly his treatment of Beckham, the inability to see that Gerrard & Lampard cant operate in the same team and our general lack of passion and crappy performances have beaten that out of me.

I wouldn't have been too upset if England hadn't won last night. It would have been worth it if it meant McLaren got sacked.

I do think that Beckham needed to be dropped to get him to sort himself out. Under Sven he was guaranteed a place in the team no matter how bad he was playing (the same way that Lampard is now) but he deserves a lot of credit for the fact that he has knuckled down and is now playing some of his best football for years. He has been excellent over these past two games.

IMHO the trouble with the midfield is that Gerard is our best Defensive midfielder and our best attacking midfielder so whatever role you give to Lampard you are always going to wish that Gerard was playing that role. I personally think that if Paul Scholes was still available he would play instead of Lampard and Gerard would sit bck in the defensive role.

forget about the midfield.

Errrrrrrr!!!

I think we should be encouraging our midfield to get more goals. Although Lampard and Gerrard get goals for their clubs they seem to be very defensive when they play for England. That problems is the managers.

Mclaren was never the right choice in the first place and even though Beckham is now saving his bacon (luckiliy he loves his country, I would have told them to fook off) I feel that we are just killing time until Mclaren gets the sack!!

I think Mclaren was right to drop Beckham in the first place. He had a very poor run of form, wasnt a suitable captain and needed to get his head sorted. I also think he was right to bring him back when he did as he had hit a great run of form.

The only thing that winds me up about Mclaren is his insistence on playing Fat Fwank Lampard. He has been Englands worst performer in pretty much every game since the start of the World Cup. How can he hold down a place in a position as pivotal as in the centre of midfield when the likes of Carrick, Jenas, christ id even say Joey Barton, have all had superb seasons with their clubs and have at least been consitant throughout. Really peed me off last night how the comentators were praising Franks efforts, getting into the penalty area, into areas to score....Yeah but he didnt, and i guess around 90% of his passes went astray again (which admittedly is an improvement over his past 7 games). Bring Carrick in for a bit of stability and allow Gerrard to do what he does best and break forward and support the front 2.

The key to international football has always been getting numbers into the midfield as quickly as possible when defending, then getting midfield runners in front of the ball when attacking. England’s problem at the moment seems to be their inability to get ahead of the ball, something Gerrard and Lampard do for fun at club level.

I think under Sven England were encouraged to maintain a rigid shape of two banks of four. Players like Scholes were Sacrificed to the left wing because of his desire to run beyond the ball and leave the center of the midfield slightly more exposed to counter attack. Unfortunately for all of us this tactic proved to be quite successful for Sven in qualification matches so he stuck with it. It wasn't until we went to the knock out tournaments that we realised he had no plan B and was unable to force a game.

Mclaren has adopted the same safety first attitude

We should have had big Sam as manager. !

Correct!!

*waits for aload of sh!t about a long ball game*

I have watched Bolton a lot recently and they can get the ball down and play some terrific football. Let's see how Newcastle get on next season......;)

I also think that Allardyce can motivate players better than most!

I have to say i disagree with the dropping Beckham from the squad, dropping him for the starting eleven maybe. But if we look back at the last world cup who scored for us, who set our goals up and who eventually was run out of the team for all the wrong reasons. I watch him on the pitch and he is one of the few who looks proud to be wearing the shirt and from his stepping down statement it was obvious it ment the world to him to be England captain.
