I know the usual travel websites for flights, but wondered if anyone has preferences as their favourite and ones to avoid. or maybe their are better places to get them on the high street. Never been to China before, so will be an experience. Nic Posted June 5, 2007 Share Posted June 5, 2007 Virgin, Cathay Pacific or BA, all pretty similar if you go cattle class, I'd just get the best deal you can. Saying that Cathay may be the best option, as you should be able to book the connecting flight from HK to China as well, that'll probably be with China Airways (good luck! ). Best to avoid China Airways when travelling to Nanning however, as they are the national airline carrier for Taiwan and therefore would probably get shot down if they entered China airspace Tsk tsk Nic According to my little HK airline book, the only airlines that fly from HK to Nanning are Hong Kong Airways (once a day/7 days a week) and China Southern Airlines (Mon, Wed, Fri & Sun). I regularly fly Hongkong Airways to the Philippines and they are ok. Small planes and always late. Here is their website: http://www.hkairlines.com/web/eng/eindex.php China Southern Airlines will have bigger planes but it seems to me that they tend to be flown by ex jet fighter pilots and hence landings are usually made quicker than normal Here is their website too: http://ec.cs-air.com/B2C/index_en.jsp As Nanning is the capital of Guangxi Province there is a good chance it is a dump. I've never been there, so probably doing it a huge injustice but it is known as the "Green City" for some reason. Maybe all the taxi are green colour? If you get a chance to travel around the Guangxi Province don't miss the chance to visit the Guilin/Yangshuo area. It is one of the most pictureresque places I have ever been to. I have been there 5 times now and in October there should be clear skies and a decent temperature too. I don't actually have a picture of it but the hot air balloon descends after these shots and moves between the actual kastes (hills) below their peaks Would be either awesome or absolutely terrifying There is much to do there apart from admiring the views - hiking, rafting, cycling, cave exploration, climbing, ballooning, drinking 20p bottles (700ml) of Li Quan beer... Moon Hill is a magic place. A hard half hour climb to the main hole area, where all the climbing is done. First time you attempt it a little old lady (70-80y/o) will follow you up from the bottom to the top carrying an eskie containing bottles of water, soft drinks and beer... She will keep pestering you until you buy something from her, she will even follow you down if you don't! For the sake of 34p it is best to buy a couple of bottles at the bottom and you are then left alone by the rest of the old dears there... Just need to work out the costs of flights as they vary by double the costs depending on Airline. Air China is a bit of a better proposition for me for ease of use and costs. Also, the entertainment on board is more my taste, as i don't watch much Western movies or such, only Asian from HK, China or Japan. All i need now is to find a flight website that can give me an airline flight costs for a spread of days, not just one flying day. National Day is a killer for costs in October.
