Keith C
Urk! Toyota want over a grand for a standard intercooler, which I'd quite like to get replaced as the stock one is looking a bit worse for wear. So, I don't want to go for a humungous HKS jobbie as a) I want to keep the active spoiler, and b) I probably can't afford to insure it with one, although I'm looking into it. So - is there somewhere less wallet-damaging that I can get a replacement side-mount from? Or is there a smaller FMIC that means I can keep the goodies at the front? Guest Martin F
I think it's Greddy that make a replacement SMIC, you may want to look into.
Branners
Barry has a spare SMIC and I have a spare as well, but as my SMIC is currently smoking about 20 fags a day (fag buts stuck where the fins used to be), Im having to use my one to replace it. On the subject of FMICs, I talked to Leon yesterday about fitting a FMIC higher to get round the active spoiler, he said that its not the height of the FMIC thats the problem, its the hard pipes that cannot get past the active spoiler mechanism......perhaps we need to research that and see if its possible to get past it. Barry
Keith - As JB says, I have a spare stock IC. Yours for £40. Fins are in pretty good nick, few missing. I cleaned it all up a while ago and its just sat in my garage ever since.! I have a feeling its Trust that do the SMIC.
Guest Martin F
Yeah Trust-Greddy, depends what part of the world you live in.
Alex
Didn't Leom have an ARC SMIC sitting around...that would be a nice piece of kit...
Keith C
Hmm, damn, I wanna FMIC - but I wanna keep my spoiler! Barry, are you able to take a couple of pics of yours so I can compare? I assume there aren't any differences between J and UK spec IC's?
Branners
I think he had an ARC and a Trust, but he fitted one of them to a customer car so only has one left. We keep meaning to do some charge temp tests with the spare one to see what difference it really makes, but his time is so limited at the moment we just never get round to it. Demon
I've just had Pace make me a f.m.i.c. Very nice job and they made it up to the same spec and size as a H.K.S type 'r' for £385 plus vat ! now thats what i call a good saving
Wez
Sounds good Thats what I call good service, my mate has a subaru and had an insane intercooler and rad made all in for approx £600 with all piping and two electric fans. To give you some idea the charge air flow area of the intercooler is approx 100 square inches. The hks type r intercooler for a supra has about half the charge air flow area. Guest Martin F
Are you sure about that ? The dimensions of the R type are 600x302x97mm. Therefore taking the front face, which i'm guessing is what you mean by the charge airflow area, that would be 600x302mm = approx 290 square inches. Or am i missing the plot on this one. Guest Martin F
Doh!!! Forget that, i just spotted the operative words 'Charge Air Flow'. But would still be good to see how all the specs of these Pace products compare to the HKS ones. i.e. efficiency, pressure drop etc.
Wez
I don`t have all the details but he says that the highest charge temp he has seen is 33deg C on track in the summer Not sure it is possible to measure the pressure drop it must be less than 1psi, possible due to the insane flow area. Demon
Micra's in the background because the cars in my workshop No that price was just for the bare I.C. i had to fit it make up the mountings, supply and alter the pipe work, make up new p/s oil cooler pipe, relocate cooling system overflow tank, but apart from that lot it was no probkem at all:(
