ellis
Power steering pump? - this seems to be a common problem!!
Rollin_Thunder
well at least its not the power steering rack, how would i know is there a simple visual test i can do & are they expensive to replace?
ellis
Check the fluid level (might just be low) if its mucky (black) it might be worth replacing the fluid entirely. Mine groaned on right turns too - new fluid has almost cured it (not entirely though - new pump needed at some point I feel!!) Cheaper than a new pump to begin with! Rollin_Thunder
cool i thought ( & prayed ) it was just just a bit low... im trying to get a sound clip of it to see if that helps to narrow the problem as trying to describe a noise over the net prob isn't the most cleverest of ideas i have ever had
Mike B
sounds like the fluid is low, my old car leaked psf from the rack during a trackday and it sounded exactly like a muffled screech. hopefully nothing serious!
Nic
To bleed any air out of the PAS system top up fluid and leave teh cap off, then whilst parked go from full lock to full lock a few times. You may need to top up fluid again after doing this if there was air in the system.

Rollin_Thunder
right think i found the source of the problem.. as i said i have just had all new brakes & pads fitted & the garage seem to think that it has something to do with the dust shields around the pads causing the noise, i have it booked in for Wednesday so hopefully i will get it sorted as it getting worse... Rollin_Thunder
they poked the shield yesterday with a screw driver & the noise went away then i hit some bumps in the road & the noise came right back again, tis very strange & really embarrassing now again i have checked the fluid levels & they are fine, asked garage to do visual check & they can't see anything ( garage = awesome imports in hallen bristol) but got me booked in, its strange as it was fine till the brakes were changed....
