TLicense
OK think of it like this.... You're a fruit / veg picker in the middle of a field, miles away from the nearest toilet, and you feel the urge. Do you:- a) Hold it in till the end of your shift. b) Take a piss onto the very fruit / veg that you're picking c) Go up against a hedge / tree, carefully making sure that you use a wet wipe to thoroughly clean your hands after you've been before resuming your labour. I wash my fruit.
TLicense
However all that said, a friend of mine said he never bothers to wash mushrooms. After all they're actually grown out of shit, so what do you think you're achieving by washing it? I don't eat mushrooms.
s3upra
If its from a Supermarket(covered in god knows what)-then yes always wash it. If its from my own garden then no,the odd greenfly adds to the flavour;)

Havard
My parents owned a farm had a large horiculture business, so I know a little about this subject. You really must wash all fruit and veg before eating or using in cooking. Although most will have had a quick spray with clean water prior to packaging, insecticide and chemical residue will remain in relatively high percentages on the surface (not to mention dirt from the air, soil, bird sh*t and anything else they get in contact with - including some the dirty hands of some filthy packager). This is especially so for things like lettuce, strawberries, grapes and apples. Beware if it's from Spain or "third world" countries, though the UK has extremely strict rules on the sprays and insecticides that can be used, this is not the case for MOST other countries. Spain has some of the worse controls in the western world for chemical usage. When it comes to fruit and veg, British is the safest and cleanest to eat. Hmm!! Staying away from fruit me thinks!! H. Babe
If it's organic then it gets washed before eating. If it's not organic then it gets washed and peeled... too many pesticides/chemicals remain in the skin and won't wash off, cause all sorts of problems when you got dodgy guts like me! Plus, I don't want my Sprog full of nasty chemicals... she's a live-wire already and doesn't have artifical additives / flavourings / colourings / sweeteners... can you imagine what she would be like if she did!
