juanchan
I've just taxed it and printed out the receipt to keep in the car. I've driven around for months having not been bothered to undo all those little screws on the metal tax disk holder before now. I guess I just got lucky. The one time I don't display any valid tax will be the one time I wish I had. The bank will appreciate the break from the fuel bills, so I can't complain too much
Pete
Tsk I know. I've been real slack. I'm a bad bad man (I didn't do it on purpose though..honest!)
SimonB
It's not a producer for failing to display a tax disc, it's a £60 fixed penalty. There is no grace period or exemptions for any reason - I think the 14 days refers to the amount of time before your previous tax runs out that you can apply for a new one. I have heard of people being fined despite having tax - the people checking don't always have access to the computer to check if they're not police. Jive
Ooops. Mine ran out 4 days ago. At least it has an MOT now....that ran out in March. Thanks Pete for posting that, you've just made me feel that at least I'm on a par with you The next time I drive the car it will be on the way to the MOT garage and hopefully, fingers crossed it will pass it's emissions test for the 3rd time! Then I can get some of that old tax stuff and go to the meet tonight (risking it being in the post ) Go on Juanchan, bring it along .. you know ya wanna

It is tempting, but I know that the one time I'm aware of doing something not completely by the book, is the one time I needed to. Take it you're taxing it online today then?? Thorin
That reminds me, my new tax disc is in the glove box, must get around to changing it and not leave it in there 3 months like last time. (I've got one of those alloy tax disc holders with the mini-hex bolts and I fixed it so far down the windscreen it's a b'stard undoing them to change it )
Chris Wilson
Isn't failing to display a different offence to failing to HAVE a current road fund licence?
AndyT
Isn't failing to display a different offence to failing to HAVE a current road fund licence? Think you're right mate. One is "evasion" the other's just negligent / silly for not remembering to change disc. Evasion option would carry the heaviest punishment if so. Chris Wilson
Forging a tax disc is pretty frowned upon, and gets you a CR.
AndyT
Forging a tax disc is pretty frowned upon, and gets you a CR. Yep. Although a mate got away with it cos he'd just picked the car up and hadn't examined the disc closely. Reg digits were altered.
