David P
How long since the oil was changed? Probably a bearing on it's way out.
trinitom
the car was doing this when i got it (2 years ago), i did just replace the clutch, pilot bearing, release bearing and fresh oil. still got the same noise as described be the op, its like a worn bearing kind of sound, i always had the idea that it was the release bearing, but looks like not! any ideas? David P
I have just realised this is a 5 years old unanswered thread bumped. Best starting your own thread for your own tech probs to help avoid confustications. If it has been doing it for 2 years, then if you're lucky it might do it for some more. If it were mine, I would be using this reprieve to single out a good used box. Edited June 11, 2012 by David P (see edit history)
trinitom
i know i should have started a new thread, but the car in question is the same as the op! thanks anyway.
pbryant_knight
Gearbox whine - I use a nice Chablis in mine. If I can't get hold of that any red whine will do. Peter
