Will a new emphasis on Islamic studies and state training of Mosque leaders help to provide more moderate voices?

Tony Blair has launched a £1m project to fund the training of Muslim clerics in the UK - allowing Britain to move away from reliance on overseas ministers who may not speak English.

The investment is part of the government's efforts to promote moderate Muslim voices and curb extremism.

Speaking today, the Prime Minister said, "let the authentic voices of Islam, in their various schools and manifestations, speak for themselves".

Should imams be trained in the country in which they live? Will focusing on Islamic studies as a "strategic subject" help combat extremism? Is the teaching of Islam in UK universities out-dated? Are you a student or a lecturer?

No charity begins in every other country but our own and we all get taxed to death for the privalege!! It will be great, we'll spend money on lots of unimportant crap as the rest of the country gets flushed down the bog!!
