chrisavila100
Ok went for drive after work tonight, put my road angel on as ive never driven these roads!(new to the area) Anyway, after a lot of bends came onto a sweet looking straight road so gave her full beans:eyebrows: Next thing i see a big flash to the right and in front of me:( then a second flash just as i was going past a big tree!! Thought WTF happend there:search: I knew it was a speed camera, but i was driving towards it, and i think when the second flash went, i was alongside it, if anything past it! Then thought maybe it was one of the cameras that gets you in both directions! So turned around to have a look at the camera[ANGRY][/ANGRY] This was what i call a NORMAL camera, (big grey box with reflective BACK!) the only markings in the road were the ones in the lane that goes past the camera and not in the lane coming towards it!! Now im 80% sure these cameras can only catch you if you go past the camera and not towards them! But then why would the camera still flash?? I hope you can put my mind at rest, as im abit worried i could be walking to work pretty soon:( Cheers guys..
Marty
they only get you going away from you..... they take 2 pictures, measure the distance between both, and then work out how fast you were going. but if your that worried, use a 9" grinder, chop it down and put it in your shed
flukey-lukey
but if your that worried, use a 9" grinder, chop it down and put it in your shed lol, I actually know a guy who got caught by a camera, two hours later he went back to it and set it on fire thinking it would destroy the evidence. But no, the police came to his house the next day and told him that the data was stored in the grey box a few metres away from the camera busted!! So why did i set the camera off, going in the wrong direction:search:
Suprash
Some do mate, dont worry about it. There used to be a camera coming out of London that used to flash on the opposite side, sometime they just seem to get set off by stupid things like that, but dont worry you cant get done for that one. On the way out past this camera I used to purposly put my foot down to set it off, better to waste the pics on blank roads then let inocent motorists get caught by it
chrisavila100
Cheers guys i can stop worrying now:) Got VERY worried just after it happend! and was cursing at my road angel untill i saw which type of camera it was lol.. So does the camera only take a pic of the left hand side bit of the road? Only ive seen these cameras covering 3 lanes of traffic? so if it took the pic of both lanes then i would be in the first pic but not the second? Now 99% sure im ok, will be 100% if i know it will only photo the left lane and not some of the right lane too!
Havard
It did flash twice but i think i was past it on the second flash! So why did i set the camera off, going in the wrong direction:search: Where you going that fast that you acted like a comet and set off all electrical items in your trail??? How many leptons were you doing Chris? H.

Guest Geneb
some camera's take pic's of you as you approach iirc i have: 1. Radar Detector 2. Garmin GPS 3. 360 degree Laser detector 4. Laser Jammer of course these are not fitted to my car as it would be illegal
Ric
If its a normal gatso camera you wont hear anything as they can only flash you when you drive past them with it behind you. If its a truvelo camera they take pictures as you approache you and they take pictures from the front with a not bright but strong purple flash
chrisavila100
The camera in question is a gatso, Big grey box looks the same as 90% of the cameras you see! i think the truvelo cameras are blue in colour and are slimer but taller, and you have the white lines on both sides of the road! Anyway im not proud of the speed i reached:eyebrows: but it was a 30 zone with fresh black tarmac, dead straight road, trees all down oneside, so almost inviting you to give it some welly:rolleyes: I think i must have passed the camera just after shifting into 4th and i was flat out through 2nd and 3rd so you can get an idea of my speed! hence the reason i was so worried!! Im sure if your caught doing that sort of speed in a 30 they would not just let you off with a slap on the hand! Im not proud of this and have learnt my lesson;) cheers guys... Mike_Mac
If it was a standard Gatso (which it sounds like if the flash dazzled you) then you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Safety Camera Partnerships (or whatever they're called now) cannot use cameras that flash directly into the driver's face, due to the distraction possibly causing an accident. Any evidence presented from a camera that did this would be inadmissable, because it was gathered illegally. Truvelo flashes don't cause disorientation because they don't blind the driver, so they are ok. I had a similar incident with a Gatso (33-35 in a 30) that flashed me from the front and the above info is what I dug up from a variety of places. And yes the two flashes were VERY bright, although the second flash was once i passed the camera:eyebrows: it still lit up the road behind me! Geneb, how much did your Laser Jammer cost you? and where do you fit them so they cannot be seen? Cheers guys...
Dave
normal gatsos only catch yer going away from them thats why i never understand why people going towards them slow down to 30 .a naughty trick is if someone is coming up to the gatso and your coming the facing the camera way speed up and it flashes them .taxi drivers round our way do it all the time to waste the film:D
Fifty
Me 21 days ago 60++ in a 60 in my Peugot lol guess what - no camera in it and its too late now anyway - jammy git! fishman
like people have said they can only get u if you are travelling away from it.... also if you do go to court over it, and they only have one of the two photos taken, you can get away with it
Suprash
Good man. Do the same on the bike. No front plate... I have my front plate on, but the camera is facing the wrong way, so I basically dont give two hoots if they can see my plate or not. It shouldnt be picking up the opposite side of the road....... But still if I had no front plate, then I would make full use of the front facing ones as well.....
Suprash
Anyway im not proud of the speed i reached:eyebrows: Yeah you are Or should be..... As long as its not built up, schools or parks around, then I dont care what the marker says. There is a stretch of dual carriageway in B/Stoke, no housed either side, no parks, no schools, nothing except an MFI, and its been brought down from 60 - 50 and now to 30......Why ???? Balls to that.....

Balls to that..... Maybe a little;) I agree they put them in places just to catch you out! fair enough near schools and places like that, but some of the places you see them are crazy! I mean how the hell would people get run over on some of these roads that they have camera's on.. ie dead straight bit's out of built up areas... Pete
Bloody Gatso did this to me on the way back from JAE. I started to think how bad that would be in the dark though. Country road, pitch black, then ARGH! MY EYES!
chrisavila100
Yep, sure did scare the hell out of me.. To be honest it was pretty dangerous, with such bright flashes right in your face!!
