SupraKid
Well.. after 6 months and lots of investigation etc... My insurance company have decided they are making an offer on for my Supra. What should i be expecting? It was a mint uk manual, 100k miles FSH. Completely standard. They want my purchase reciept, but i didnt get one, i bought it privately. They said they are using the GLasses guide, i dont think the Supra is priced highly in them?

Scooter
there is a UK manual on ebay, its at a dealer in Havant (that have had few and know the market value) and its at £8995 (storm blue and i suspect at least your cars mileage). I keep track of the trader pretty much every week and i've not seen many (even highly priced) manuals recently. be prepared for a drawn out battle over the payout
jaymdee
Be prepared for their first offer to be shockingly low!!
Scooter
10k ish? not unreasonable probably optimistic though..........Glasses value will be painfully low probably
carl0s
Regular Glass's guide only does 1999 - 2007. It's listed in the Glass's classic or old cars separate guide or something, and the insurers will suggest somewhere around £3k (that's what the insurance engineer chap said to me when talking about my write-off). Just be prepared to provide proof of rarety, limited edition etc. I think £8,500 is a good payout and what I would aim for if it was me. I aimed for £6,500 on my UK auto and that's what I got after supplying info on actual sold cars (not just dreamer prices in for sale ads). carl0s
See attached. Looks like there's an alternate dataset available for 1992 - 1998 cars which unfortunately I don't have access to. Anyway, Glass's would value it at £3-ish from what the insurance guy said to me. http://www2.css-networks.com/glass.JPG
SupraKid
i'd want 10k atleast really seeing as thats about how much i paid for it
Guest gzaerojon
make sure they back date the value, ie the price might have dropped a little in the last 6 months from when it happened, so you want a price as it would've been back then
carl0s
i'd want 10k atleast really seeing as thats about how much i paid for it Doesn't work like that. You get the current market value.
SupraKid
Doesn't work like that. You get the current market value. this was only 6 months ago
Sheefa
Yep, as an insurer it certainly does only work on market value. There was a large discussion about this and Sky Insurances' policies for agreed value not to long ago. I'd say you're looking at £5-6k as a first offer mate. Clearly this needs rejecting! dr_blackman
I think as the others have said the 1st offer will be rubbish but with enough information on how much it would cost for another car identical to yours and spec you will have some room to up there offer
