johnd-mkiv
Seen a lot of people talking about 2 step on there AEM whats the point of it apart from the big bangs
Pig
Big bangs And the same as a normal rev limit afaik. Oh and big bangs
b_have
From the sound of the spool in that video, I'm guessing its a timing pull and loads of fuel ala antilag. Great for spooled launches, shit for turbo longevity.
Muffleman
AEM has antilag aswell as the 2-step rev limiter. The 2-step can be set as a rev limiter with or without the ignition retardation. Didn't think Dan was putting retard into the 2-step, have to look at mine I think. JamieP's 4088 would certainly suggest there is some retard and that the af mix is being ignited with the exhaust valve open.
mikeyb10supra
Not sure if it makes any difference really John, I stand to be corrected as I have never used it, not to clued up on the 2-step but I know Jamie used it!! as for the anti lag, its controlled by the AEM and employs drastic retardation of the ignition and fuel enrichment to create afterburning of the air/fuel mixture in the exhaust manifold, the resulting high pressure and increased exhaust temps help spooling, would be interesting to see two identical cars side by side with similar setups, one with anti lag and one without to measure the difference
Wez
There are two forms of antilag, Drag/2step and Rally. I havent seen anyone use the rally antilag on the AEM yet, this is for circuit/road racing to keep the turbo spooled between gear changes, you will notice it when a rally car pops and bangs going into corners. Drag/2step, the 2step is just a second rev limiter allowing you to hold your foot flat in the floor, as soon as you start retarding the ignition this becomes a form of antilag as its spooling the turbo on the line. I have used this since having the single and played with it on stock twins, not advised on ceramics though. The 2step/drag setup can be setup to just retard and not fuel/ign cut which does not cause the pops and bangs usually associated with antilag but still easily and quickly builds in excess of 1 bar boost, you regulate with the throttle instead holding it flat the floor.
