jakewebster
Just fitted my new aem afr gauge and the car seems to running rich. Under load it drops into the10's. Just had the battery disconected to fit things, does the ecu need a bit of time to learn? Worth checking return pipes? Sensors needing cleaned? Im running 0.9bar BPU at the mo btw. Alex
All stock ECU'd Supra's dive into the 10's...turn the boost up to lean it out
merckx
Join the club, most of us Jap spec owners realise this when we fit our A/F gauges.
Steve
All normal mate. As above just up the boost a little to lean it out
jakewebster
Was thinking of taking the restrictor ring out, a few people ive spoken to say it restricts to 0.9 then seeing a steady 1.1 after taking it out. Will this lean it out or will i need a boost controler?
Pete
If you take the restrictor ring out with no cats you ought to be boosting to 1.3 or 1.4 which will not be giving you much life on the tubbies. Only way to control the fuel properly is with ECU control via a piggy back or ECU swap.
jayssupra
My j-spec running at 1.2 bar is still in the 10's at full boost. i just thought this was normal for a j-spec.
jakewebster
If it boosts over 1.2 maybe shaving the restrictor ring down a bit? So its not doing any harm running in the 10's? Think i saw it as low as 10.1 or maybe even a straight 10.
Jake
My j-spec running at 1.2 bar is still in the 10's at full boost. i just thought this was normal for a j-spec. My 93 RZ Auto BPU was in the 13s:1 under boost at 1.2bar. A new fuel pump fixed that but I'm just saying don't assume they're all running safely rich at high boost - get it checked. So its not doing any harm running in the 10's? Think i saw it as low as 10.1 or maybe even a straight 10. IN the tens is probably alright, below 10 is asking for trouble. If your AEM gauge is reading 10.0 the actual reading could be way lower because 10.0 is as low as the AEM UEGO gauge goes. If it was say 8.1 the AEM would still show 10.
jakewebster
What do you sugest i get checked? Is it defo an ecu problem? There are not many specialist up here in deepest darkest Scotland. Pete
below 10 is asking for trouble. What sort of trouble?
bignum
What sort of trouble? Like borewash.
Chris Wilson
All high power modern turbo road cars run that sort of mixture around peak torque and on WOT. There's a very good reason for it on a stock car. The only proper way to control it is with a mappable ecu.
