DAVE-W-
Posted recently sayin about my car not always boostin right on second turbo and how when idling from cold revs kangaroo between 800 down to below 400ish almost cutting out until car warms up. Most people have said change the plugs. Plugs were changed month or 2 ago and car was great after change then started runnin shit recently and it now comes and goes. Here comes the science bit( Im obviously no mechanic) I was told by my mechanic that the car is startin to smoke slightly and it will be the valve stem oil seals but theyre not bad yet so theres no rush to fork out cash to repair. So could this coz the plugs to get covered in oil slightly therefore affecting performance and idle or would the two not relate. If theres no connection then ill try new plugs but if the stem seals could coz the plugs to get ruined then obviously i need to get the seals sorted. Due to my lack of knowledge im startin to get bit pissed of with car not running right so ur advice is much needed Cheers Dave
TLicense
My stem seals were pretty bad when I changed them, I had BIG clouds of smoke, and I didn't experience your kangarooing problem.
TLicense
Just had a thought. What plugs do you use? If they need gapping, are the gaps correct?
DAVE-W-
The cars not kangarooin when driven from cold its only when you leave the car sitting to warm up on its own that the revs keep droppin down nearly cutting out then jump back up for a second then drop again and on and on...... Jake
Can;t see it being stem seals. I'd check for air leaks and maybe get a new lambda sensor in there and see if that helps.
DAVE-W-
Dont know what plugs garage had put in. Had bought ngk's but forgot to give them to mechanic so he ended up putting in expensive plugs which were fine at start. Car went like bomb for a while and then suddenly started runnin shit "at times" and idlin bad "all the time" when cold. More smoke is noticable now than at service time which was only few months ago and i dont do much mileage
VIL
When you say it kangaroo's do you mean whist pulling away or do you mean it idles irratically? If it runs at ~800 and then drops to ~400 it will sound like its struggling to idle but it should not cut out. I would take a guess that if you blip the throttle it will pick up OK? If so I would not worry too much, its probably the cars management system having a moment! Equally it could be a sensor etc, I would monitor it for a while before changing the plugs again as I would say they are ok based on the time they have been fitted. Oh and most Sups are now suffering from valve stem seal issues now...they are old cars remember! Again I would not worry too much unless its absolutely chucking out smoke. Keep and eye on your oil levels though!! More concerning is the poor pick up on the 2nd turbo. My knowledge here is sketchy but I believe its normally attributed to the actuator, may be worth searching for a thread on this issue. Good luck with it...
