mathew
this may be a no brainer but how tight should wheel nuts be? iv tightened them as much as possible by hand but do they need more? do i need to jump on the spanner (or whatever its called)? couv3z
it would be best, to use the spanner and have them rock tight
Al Massey
if you had a torque wrench use that but if you dont hand tight would be fine, just dont go jumping on ya "spanner" may cause the bolt to shear
edge
Trail and error realy. If your wheels fall off then you didnt do them tight enough But seriously if in doubt do them up realy tight if you need to drive the car. I use an extension bar thingy. If You dont have a torque wrench get someone who knows to check yours just to make sure.
Jive
hand tight would be fine you serious? I'd be absolutely crapping myself if I knew my wheel nuts were only hand tightened!
Al Massey
most peoples hand tight is at least 70nm anyway and anymore than that on wheel nuts is reaching stress point

mattanna
If you have an extendable wrench you should tighten nuts when car is on the ground with the wrench closed, overtighteneng is worse as they could shear or fracture, theu are boltys made to fit in the threads so should not come undone unles you have only tightened them with your fingers, closed wrench as tight as you can, and always in opposites of course:)
