MONKEYmark
hi just fitted my HKS electronic EGT gauge wired it all up and put probe into enginebay i have taped it next to the turbo`s on the metal sheet close to turbos to get a reading.i know i wont leave it there.its all wired up and does the self test thing.in manual it shows you the manifold but do you have to drill a hole in it there looks like a sensor in the front downpipe next to turbos but chris willson said this is a cat overheat sensor.is it possible to use that? i will be buying a front decat pipe from chris willson just wonderd if i could fit the probe myself.i am not very good with cars but i have fitted my boost gauge and egt gauge and intercooler hard pipe upgrade so far. just need some confidence to try othe mods. will go check it works by leaving car on idle till it warms up i know its not going to be a true reading but want to make sure it works ok thanks for any help mark
Guest Martin F
You need to drill and tap the exhaust maniold. Not a job for those un-familiar with taps & dies, because if you duck it up it could be expensive. Speak to Chris Wilson, he did mine for me. I don't actually know if you will get much of a reading taped to the outside of the heatshield as i think the first reading on the gauge is about 200 degC. I reckon your tape will smell nice at that temp
Chris Wilson
You need to drill and tap the exhaust manifold BEFORE the turbos, after them will give inaccurate and useless, laggy readings. You need to know the temps as near to the ports as possible. This involves some dismantling, and modded drill bits and tap extensions. I can do the sensor install for 50 quid while you wait. I have made some special tools to do the job without extensive dismantling and have it down to a fine art now.
