tomssupra
Hello, Does anyone know the best way to repair a few cracks on the Fibreglass skrits and spats (oem)? Im looking to sell soon and I want it in best condition! Thanks,
CarlT67
I think you will have to take the paint and primer back quite far, as the cracks can be cased by the gel coat primer that some kits come with from the factory.
turbonut
Hi Tom I'm looking at doing the same as I'm having new skirts but the old ones need some attention You can get fibreglass kits for repairs but how strong the bond will be, I wouldnt know. Its also very messy stuff It may be worth approaching a bodyshop to get an idea of whether or not its worth having them done professionaly - as you can get a new set of skirts for around the £200 mark, it may not be worth it. I'm getting my new skirts hopefully this week and will let you know the fellah's opinion on wether their worth repairing, good luck anyway, Linda x
tomssupra
Hi Linda, Yes, the guy at my local bodyshop said to just get new ones, but i cant believe a few small cracks and some paint is more or as expensive and a repair! I will take a look at a repair kit it think, Thanks
SMiFFAD
Add some FG to the back of the cracked area, its probably cracked because its stressed/flexing. I had the same problem with my bonnet, we had to take a grinder to the gel coat to get it all off, wipe with acitone to soften up the old FG and give it somethingt o stick to, and lay a few sheets of glass over. Solid as a rock now. All youll then have to do is sand, fill sand/paint the outside
SupraJames
I repair bodykits and custom body parts, have done a few bits already, rebuild some VS skirts that were smashed to bits, and couple of bits on a 106 with smashed front. If you PM some pics of the damaged parts I will give you a quote on repairs, will get them back to the original finish and primer them, then all you have to do is get them painted. hoff
My mate did his scooby front bumper and it looked fine. This week we are looking at my Bomex front. The whole centre is missing so we're going to put it back together, dont ask me how but he thinks it can be done, then use the fibre glass kit on it. I cant see it being good enough to put back on the car though. So watch this space for a Bomex for sale for track day use etc;)

Any bodykit bits can be virtually rebuild from nothing, just takes time, the front I have on at the mo, was build using various body parts, takes time but results can be pleasing. hoff
If you're right and im sure you are then it'll be back on. I think im expecting a few imperfections but hopefull I can get away with it then and it can be on again for JAE.
Angarak
Small cracks shouldnt be a problem as mentioned, even composites with serious damage can be repaired as long as its cost effective. For example, this cherry picker engine cover was mullered when it came to us, but it was like new the next day (bar painting). Always repair from the back, then fill from the front in either body filler or a gelcoat/resin mix.
