Branners
Im spending the weekend in Great Yarmouth with my parents and my family. Im looking at the map on how to get there and Im looking for some advice from those that know the area. Im thinking from South Mimms I go round the M25, up the M11, then the A11 (bit of A14), more A11 all the way to Norwich then A47 all the way to sunny Great Yarmouth. Or from South Mimms I could go round the M25, up the A12 to Ipswich, bit of A14, then more A12 all the way to Great Yarmouth. Now I absolutely hate getting stuck behind slow drivers and will look for a dual carriageway at all times. So what do the locals recommend. Rico2006
From South Mimms, A1 - A505 to Baldock, through Royston, continue on 505 to A11, A14 then join the A11 again, A47 then lastly the A149. Might hit traffic on the A11 single carraigeway coming into Thetford forest. A1 - A505 is much quicker than using the M25 M11 - i do Great Hockham (Thetford) to Watford 2 times a week and can confirm this route works well. BEERSHZ
have fun watching all the chavs up and down the sea front lol watch out for speed cameras up there too if you drive along it gt yarmouth police like to pick on nice cars!!!
Al Massey
if you see traffic on a11 towards thetford forest, stay on a14 and cut through bury st edmunds, its much quicker then goin through thetford as its mostly single traffic with a crappy roundabout near the american air bases

Digsy
M25 A11 A14 A11 A47 is by far the simplest route to Great Yarmouth. The only bit they havn't dualled now is by Elevedon, and that's not far. All the other road links are worse. I think the merits of taking the 505 depend on when you travel. Its a much more fiddly route than sticking to the major roads. Branners
thanks guys. Thats the route I will take. I know the 505 route quite well, and since they put in the bypass (and that lovely tunnel) its quite an easy route to take. No worries about the car being picked off, Im using my Vectra Estate and in areas I dont know I just set the cruise for bang on the speed limit.
