What boost on a T67 & stock engine?

One thing I've found is that 1 bar is too much to get to the road in 1st gear, so really need to set it up so that I can run lower boost in low gears and raise it for 4th upwards.

Cant the AEM do that?

I know you wont be running it, just curious ;)

Edit, no it can use a solenoid and switch boost, but i dont *think* 'it' can control boost according to gear......although it would be nice :D

No 'colour' version here, just the basic one.

im pretty sure the sbc-idiii can not without the aid of a Power Meter i-D so it can use the speed map function so it limits boost up to certain speed etc.

Dammit. Looks like it'll just be down to good old driver input :D

On a stock engine I'd personally run as much boost as the engine is be making more power. The limitation is not the engine internals, it's the pump fuel and the fact that you would need to pull timing not to get knock therefore you make less power if you raise the boost from 1bar to 1.2 or 1.4 to 1.6.

People in US use to run as much as 2bar of boost on a stock engine on race fuel without much problems. As I said, I dont think the engine is the weakest link if you keep it happy with fuel and avoid detonation.

Boost away!

Thanks for all the inputs guys, all advice taken on board :)

Unfortunately due to the weather over the last two days we've not been able to get any mapping done. I think it's going to be a case of try it and see. See how 1.2 bar feels and go from there, if it's not enough power then 1.3-4bar could be on the cards.

But it will feel like enough at the time. For all of a week or two!! :D

I don't think mapping to 1.4 is rediculous, then run that when you got yourself some competition on the road. Also, timing will be a little more retarded at that boost level if set up for that so then running 1.2 will be very safe given less boost with less ignition advance than if you optimised for 1.2bar.

With the PowerFC you will need to save seperate maps for normal and race fuel, then load them up to the ECU with a laptop when at the strip to run on the race fuel.

Interestingly enough, the MAP2 piggyback ECU has 'on the fly' switchable maps through a dash mounted switch, out of the box :)

Cheers,

Brian.
