judder

HEY guys - wahoo we still have a board !!!! :)

Well, first time in months (and after ANOTHER overnight battery charge) took my Supra out for little drive......

I always had a judder on the wheel from 60-80 and it went away......now however it starts at 45 and doesnt stop till 140 (!)

checked my suspension (err this is basic, but the only way i know how) using the finger method....

driver side front, 3 and half fingers.....

pass. side front, 2 and half fingers....

my shocks were replaced (by JIC before i got the car) last sept.

could it be a spring slowly fading? would this cause the judder?

i always put it down to bad tracking/balancing....

tread on both my tyres is even all the way round !!!

its got 3 months till its next service + new set of rears :(

so may leave it till then and see if 4wheel track/align/balance cures the problem

Any kind of vibration that you can drive "through" (albeit at twice the national speed limit!!) I would normally put down to wheel balance.

Does your car wander at all if you let go of the steering wheel? (don't do this at 140 :D ) if not then its probably not tracking.

Difficult to see how a spring could lose its "springyness" by just sitting there for a few months. The difference in height from side to side could just be uneveness in the road where you happened to be parked when you did the finger test.

When I let my car down off axlestands after a week I noticed a change in the handling for a little while when I first drove it (seemed a bit softer). I put this down to the shocks being at full extension for all that time. It soon settled down though. If your shocks are new then it shouldn't be them. You could always do the "bounce test" to double check.

Maybe one of your wheels has thrown a balance weight? You should be able to get them re-balanced for about £10 and at least it will eliminate that option one way or another.
