Holy crap, it's an aerial assault !!!

Last weekend I noticed something flying around our house and it looked like one big arse wasp. It flew past me a couple of times but then bogged off.

Got a mate of mine who's a builder and working at my house, he phoned me yesterday to say HOLY CRAP A HUUUGE WASP JUST LANDED ON MY SHOULDER ! Anyway, he managed to club it with a 2x4, so the assault is over.

By the time I got home it had disappeared, so I presumed a bird had made off with it or something. But my mate found it today and showed the missus who has just taken a pic of it with her phone. I have to say it's a rubbish picture and I will get better ones tonight, but look at the size of the spike poking out of it's ass

Apparently it is bright yellow for the most part. No idea what it is but will try and find out.

Might not be able to post pics tonight as my internet is screwed again, oh the joys of living rurally

thats a hornet i beleive, huge versions of wasps essentially. pretty unusual in the u.k though, i usually see them in lanzarote, they can be bigger than the one you've killed up to 2.5 inches

there not as bad as wasps though as they generally fly away when they face something bigger than them and are less likely to sting you and generally hide from people, so bassically there the one insect that isnt stupid.

its actually illegal to kill hornets (well nests) now in a few countries, since there an endangered species in a lot of country
