Turbochargers

Hi.

Is Garrett GT60 (turbocharger included in PHR N/A-T kit) an overkill if my goal is maximum 450fwhp? Maybe i should sell it and buy something smaller? Garett GT35? SP57? What do you reckon?

Thanks in advance.

Tomasz

I'd go for a GT60, so you don't need as much boost to produce the desired power....

Not really overkill. It's a small turbo, realistically capable of 500-550 fwhp on UK pump fuel, or less if you want.

So, turbo swap is not worth the bother? That's good news as i just bought PHR kit. :) I want turbocharger which will be start to spool fast... I want only 450fwhp. I'm afraid about the tranny if i push it too much.

Thanks

Tomasz

What do you think about this one:

Garett GT3076R: http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/catelog/Turbochargers/GT30/GT3076R_700382_12.htm

What do you think about this one:

The GT3076R is a bit on the small side for a 3L engine, it'll spool extremely quickly, but run out of breath higher up the rev range. I know a few of the guys on the Australian forum are using these on MKIII and MKIV Supras.

I use the bigger GT3582R which is a great setup for a fast street car, almost no lag (comparable with a stock TT) and peak boost at just over 3000rpms in 4th, mine made 542hp at 1.3bar.

I assume you'll be running lower boost on your NA-T, so at say 0.8bar it would still be quick and probably around 450hp.

I'm not sure what your point is. What does the  smiley mean?

That turbo isn't the same as the one in the PHR kit, is it?

Jake,

What's your gt4088 likely to produce when you've finished the install, and does it give quite a quick spool up?

Yeah I really like it. It comes on boost later than the GT60, which is fine with me because I don;t want it to be on-boost all the time at motorway cruising speeds, and it doesn't run out of steam at 6000rpm like the PHR1.

It should be good for 650fwhp with the right mapping.

0.8bar (390-400fwhp) on a daily basis and up to 1.2bar(?) (450-460+fwhp) for racing.

Cheers

Nevermind. I just thought that it is genuine Garett turbocharger. I will ask PHR ... Did you have one?

You've completely misunderstood that chart (and turbo numbering convention). Garret GT60** turbo is completely different to The Garret GT60 used in the PHR stage 1.

For exmaple, the GT4088 which is popular these days is around the same sort of spec as the BL T67. Notice it starts GT40, hence the position of the chart you posted.

The numbers on the turbo names do not represent the same things.

Thanks. I know it now. It is custom PHR GT60 with Garrett Internals.
