tbourner
How do you get that lovely fluttery dump valve sound?
Chase
If you mean that chirpy/fluttery type sound, I think you need an external wastegate...
heckler
I can get my Greddy BOV to flutter/Chatter on lift off... - just does it
Ian C
I actually laughed when I read this thread title External wastegate gives you a very loud noise under full boost. An atmospheric-venting BOV gives the noise you want. You can also get a noise kinda like that with aftermarket pod air filters as it lets you hear the stock recirculatory blow-off valve work it's magic. -Ian
tbourner
I've got a Blitz BOV at the mo but it just goes PPTTTTTSSSSSSCCCCHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Well you get the idea. I want the flutter where there's 3 or 4 dump sounds getting lower in tone and volume. Like for example Dude's car you can hear it on some of the pod clips (couldn't when I was in it though - everything else was too bloody loud!!). My HKS does this a lot of the time, sounds really good. But if you want a real fluttery dump, try cutting down on your fibre intake. Ben.. Ian C
Try loosening the adjustment screw/bolt on your dump valve - it'll open easier and flutter then. Strangely I've been trying to tune that effect out -Ian
MONKEYmark
i have had that sort of style sound with stock bov and blitz nurspec. if you lift off slowly it makes a sort of flutter sound. does anyone know if 2 stock bov mod is anygood i have a blitz dump valve thats leaking. it whistles too, i am too tight to pay £300+ for a dump valve again what sort of power is a stock bov good for? Ian C
Mark, I ran mine on a stock bov for over 30k miles and it worked fine. That was with the hybrids on, so prob over 400bhp. -Ian

merckx
Are their any advantages of replacing the stock bov with an external one other than making a nice sound?

Ian C
You have to replace it if you junk the sequential turbos for a single, other than that, none. Mark - I went for the HKS SSQV because it's the easiest to spell I've got it pointing upwards straight at a bonnet vent -Ian
Supraguy
Most vids you hear with the "fluttery dump" is Single Turbo cars with compressor surge. When you lift off the pedal, some of the air is reversed through the turbine before going through the BOV. This causes the fluttery sound youre referring to. You can actually hear it on stock TTs if you are under very light boost and sometimes surges back through your compressor vice through your BOV. Excessive surge really isnt good on Turbo internals as it can prematurely wear from stresses. I have the HKS SSQV and mine went flutter crazy after putting on my PHR Single Turbo. tbourner
So basically I need a single? That's what I wanted to hear!!! :flame Dev
cashpoint
Mine flutters at low boost and dumps at higher boost levels that's with Forge BOV and twin hybrids but it fluttered when the std twins were in there. Having and inducion kit helps i think as the air box doesn't dampen the noise.
b_have
I was using twin stock BOV's for 5 years on my hybrids, then on the PHR single set up. Fitted an HKS SSQV a month ago and found no difference, actually it didn't sound as nice! I fitted both stock BOV's in the hardpipe just before the throttlebody.
