Uprated Alternators

Does any one know how the concept of uprating the alternators on the Supra's works?

I ask as my Honda Accord 2.0i had a failed alternator. Got another put on, and the car threw a wobbly! Basically it ran right, but the "battery" and the "air bag" lights were constantly ON on the dash. Couldnt figure out why, then had the car checked and it turned out that the alternator was actually from a Hnda Accord 2.3i model. I figured the higher amps it was outputting were overcharging and hence causing the lights to come on.

So whats the crack with the Supra's. Iv seen some people uprate theirs from 90amps to the Power Enterprise 125amp units.

How do they get around it? Or does it actually leave warning lights ON on the dash?

Cheers.
