It's made of crap to look good and be light. Corvettes have a BALSA wood floor. FFS..:(

 

 

No - you're referring to what was introduced in the C5 - these Corvettes have an alloy floor containing balsa wood. The balsa helps with sound deadening but is lighter than most other materials.

 

Also, these floor panels are fitted between the centre of the chassis and hydroformed alloy perimeter rails which actually make the car almost 5 times stiffer than the previous model. The coupe C5 is stiffer with its' roof removed than the C4 was with it in place!

 

External panels are always there just to geive the car its' 'look'- whether they be plastic/GRP/steel - they are not designed to give strength to the car. They are almost always designed to crumple on impact.
