tbourner
After the Fairmile and the shock on peoples faces when I told them what tyres I have, I've been looking into them. Anyone know what the various brands are like? Mainly for winter driving. Here's the list of ones I've found and some prices for 255/40/17s: Toyo Proxes T1S £123.02 Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 £127.50 Marangoni Linea 255/40 R17 £128.13 Toyo Proxes T1-R (Reinforced) £128.90 Pirelli Pzero Assimetrico £148.83 Continental Sport Contact £150.74 Dunlop SP2000 £150.96 Pirelli Pzero Assimetrico N2 £151.67 Bridgestone S03 £155.30 Toyo R888 £157.36 Pirelli Pzero Rosso N3 £160.20 Yokohama AVS Sport £167.84 Michelin Pilot Sport £171.67 Michelin Pilot Sport N2 £176.45 Dunlop SP9000 £181.54 Yokohama A008 P N0 (Porsche) £235.27 Pros and cons? I've searched and seen 'Goodyear GSD3' come up in the same sentence as 'winter' a few times!
Bobbeh
Eagle F1's are the best all year round tyre imho.. I'm currently on Pirrelli P-Zero N4's great for grip in the dry, they wont last or perform in the wet like the Eagles F1's though. Plus the F1s are a lot cheaper! Marco
I always go for Dunlop SP9000's. Fantastic tires in dry and wet. I haven't tried the goodyear F1's though, so I can't really compare...
Zed
I've got the Dunlop sp 9000's all round and have so far covered about 7k miles with them and look like they'll last another couple of thousand at least. Did'nt realise that they were so expensive, mine were already on the car when I bought it in Apr 2003. Anyway, performance wise I have been very happy with them, very good when going for it in the twisties, I've had a couple of occaisions when the back end broke loose on a bend as turbo 2 came online and the breakaway was quite progressive. I think they're OE equipment on a lot of cars at the moment including bmw's, and for some serious pub banter, the same tyres are on the Bugatti Veyron which has been in magazines in the past. nic_f
I have Toyo T1S's and they last well and hold the road. The new T1 R's are meant to have better wet weather grip. I might give those ago next.
fatmerecat
Got F1-DS03's on the front, F1-DS02's (may now be deprecated?appologies if so) on the rear. The DS03's seem to provide decent water-cut from the front and blinding traction from the rear, in a straight line of course, mind you I won't push it in the wet round bends after the experience with the set of Carat's the soop came with back in my early months during autmn. ... in the dry they will only ever squeal markedly trying to launch on tarmac with a bit of power braking at ~2,000RPM, Stock TC off @ 32PSI Rear, 38PSI front. I'm very happy with them, rubber's the most imporant part of your car, don't scrimp and save (don't pay over the odds though), as it connects you to the road! P.S. Supras and winter don't mix... never mention Snow either ;o~

tbourner
I don't know, but it's a mixture (yes I know!!). I know one's a federal, some are unknowns (at least to me), I'd go and have a look but all I need to know is they need changing!!!

richy2jz-gte
i put dunlop sp9000 on mine and binned it in the first bit of rain theye are 1 of the worst tyres about. i took them off and sold um theye are proper crap. ive got vierdestein ultracs on the back wich are better than f1s. aint had them to long so not sure about wear rate. i will be fitting f1s on the front because vierdestein dont do them in my front size. I think the £400+ for 2 new tyres kinda blurred my vision of the Pirellis I was chuffed with the grip when I went to Germany but I've had a few minor 'moments' with them. MONKEYmark
i use cheap khumo supra tyres on mine. they supposed to be old bridgestone pattern. they less than 100 each corner. i used then to get my best time on too and did a 2.050 60 foot. iam not good at fast corners. dont even know if i could tell if i had good or bad tyres on the car. suppose some good suspension and tyres will be wasted on me. dangerous brain
Where have you gotten the price on the Eagles Tbourner as that not a bad price for them?
SkyJawa
Eagle F1's no contest. And you should NEVER mix tyres on the same axle.......... Oh, and that price is extortionate, Bracknell Tyre and Battery supply 255 40 17 Eagle F1's for 97 quid

Kev my local freindly tyre man can't get them trade at that price??? If I need 2 tyres it will be worth my while driving up for that money.. I personally now wouldn't even mix different tread depths on my car on the same axis (the front doesn't have an axle chap lol)

Now have GSD3's all round and I take it real easy in the wet but, I think I could do with a little more grip in the dry. I'll try S03's next or P-Zeros
Lazarus
Running P-Zeros all round at approx £120 each, found them to be much better than the bridgestones that were on the car, they were breaking down internally and had started to deform

Guest Atomaton
I used to run Pilot Sports all round on my UK Auto, they were pretty damn good in the wet/dry and lasted about 10K miles. Felt safe on the road. Only thing was £760 quid for all corners (standard sizes)...not the cheapest. This UK TT6 has got Avons on, no idea if they're supposed to be decent but i think they're utter sh1te compared to Michelin's. It gets very twitchey in the wet and thats not the car!!!!!! tbourner
I had Michelins on my MG and they were crap in the wet (brilliant in the dry though), could be different on the supe as it's a completely different type of car, but I won't be going there again. I'll probably go for eagles, see what they're like.
MrAngry
Going in 45 mins to get the two rears replaced with Eagle F1s they are charging me £115 each balanced and fitted. That should be the price before VAT but the nice chappy has knocked the VAT off.
