michael
Did anyone else see this last night? Cor blimey what an odd bunch, I'm surprised the BBC reporter managed to keep his cool as long as he did to be honest. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/panorama/6655207.stm A small clip from it, I suspect there are more on YouTube: I think you can see it here too: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/programmes/panorama/default.stm If you didn't see it that guy in the sun glasses just kept popping up wherever the BBC chap was, it was very odd. Worth looking out for a repeat if you missed it and can't access it using the above. The Scientologists didn't do themselves any favours but seem intent on following their predicted path to dig up dirt on anyone who questions them in an attempt to silence and belittle them. Mas
Yeah saw it last night, it seems they re bunch of Tw@ts really. Watch out as they coming to England now
jim_supra
I saw it aswell, a very good watch indeed. That guy in the sunglasses didn't really do himself or his ''religion'' any favours. And their ''fair game'' policy which they say doesn't operate anymore was being used well. as you said Michael, I would've blown my lid at the guy in sunglasses long before the reporter did. Thorin
"If you want to make a little money, write a book. If you want to make a lot of money, create a religion." L. Ron Hubbard. A notion he has been quoted as mentioning many times during the 1940's. Didn't see it, but will keep an eye out for a repeat. Nut jobs. stupra
Isn't Tom Cruise one of these lot ?, didn't he make his misses give birth to their baby without pain relief or making any noise ?. Weirdo's.
jim_supra
Isn't Tom Cruise one of these lot ?, didn't he make his misses give birth to their baby without pain relief or making any noise ?. Weirdo's. Yes Tom Cruise is one of them. Interesting thing was the BBC reporter interviewed quite a few well known celebs who were members of this religion, and all of them backed out and refused permision for their interviews to be shown. michael
Isn't Tom Cruise one of these lot ? Yeah, they collect celebs like kids collect Pokemon cards, they even have different levels for their believers like Pokemon... John Travolta is another one, he and his wife have paid into Scientology to get a higher "rank" (which then gives them a better life) and apparently refuse to accept their son has autism and won't get any treatment for him because their religion doesn't accept autism exists The Panorama guy got invited to a Scientolgy Celebrity Centre in Hollywood where they set up lots of interviews with famous Scientologists in an attempt to sway his opinions, he asked open questions and in the end they wouldn't let him use the film and threatened him with legal action if he did. They say they have nothing to hide but seem to hide a lot of things... apparently you don't even get to find out most of the thinking behind the religion unless you pay $100,000 (or google for Xenu) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAmEO-oLHzA (Anyone have a link to the full episode BTW?) Bob
Luckily it's an expensive religion and so limited to people like celebs who can afford it - who are generally loons anyway
tbourner
I don't really understand what they believe, has it got anything to do with science? I've read half of the Dianetics book - related? Maybe I'll go and search.
michael
Maybe I'll go and search. I'm having a read through this at the moment: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientology If nothing else it provides some keywords for further reading

Maybe I'll go and search. Yes, it's related to Dianetics which was the self help book written by L. Ron Hubbard (who was a science fiction writer), the religions founder. Edit: just have a read through that wikipedia article that Michael posted, that will fill in the blanks

Rob
Ah yes, SF writer creates religion based around aliens landing on earth millions of years ago. Anyone spot anything obvious in that?
michael
The power of editing! From what I gather this is typical Scientology in action, when questioned they make the other party look bad, after seeing the doc last night it's clear this vid is the one shot by the Scientology camera man who was following him. They goaded him into this reaction so they could use it as ammo to make the reporter look stupid and judging by the comments it's working. This one shows "Tommy" pushing him into it a little from the BBC angle: The guy talked over him all the time, he had to shout to be heard I guess

Rob
It wouldn't surprise me if most of those Youtube posters, even the ones claiming to be British, were Scientologists. Throw enough mud and some will stick, what a bunch of cults.
michael
Tommy the "Cruise-a-like" would have won a meeting with my forehead had he been in my face like that, BBC man did well but I suspect this won't be the last we'll hear from the alien folks in their attempts to turn the world against him. michael
I guess they couldn't get enough on him as quickly as they would like so went for Panorama and the BBC too in order to bulk out their case. They amuse me *checks outside for vans and men with sunglasses*
